well of corse i still hate pain lol im only going to try natrual and i do have the back up option of the epidural if i cant stand it which is good! i didnt realise it wasnt that popular over there! i cant imagine having a tooth pulled out without pain relief! no thankyou! im still having gas & air so its not 100% natural! we'l see what happens anyways all my birth paln could be scrapped if complications:S
wow... I'm so glad everything is going well claire.
I am with some of you... I want to go natural, but I put in my birth plan that "I am aware of all the drugs that are available and if I want something, I will ask for it." So that way in case I can't handle it, I'll get something...
I've never heard of "gas and air" I suppose that is not something they do in the US... but if I can't handle it on my own, I am going to go for the epidural
claire- i have a very low pain tolerance, every that knows me knows this! I am an advocate of natural methods when it comes to everything but I just dont want to have a bad experiance b/c I choose to go all naturel. Dont get me wrong I will try but I guess I am going on a little what people on here and freinds and family have said. I dont want to influenace you of course, but everyone I know that has had an epidural said it was the best thing they ever did and that they had a good labour experiance. Everyone who did it naturally said it was painful and they dont remember feeling excited about the baby being born b.c of the pain. I think it is a huge mind set, if you go in there telling yourself you cant then you probably cant but if you go in with the mind set of I am not taking drugs then it would be easier.
Over here water birth is not as popular as in the UK. its almost frowned upon, I had alot of people ask me if i was crazy.
The other thing I thought if too was well women in the old days gave birth without drugs, but then they used to pull teeth without drugs too and they dont do that now adays!!
Claire ~ I think it is great, just keep an opened mind! You CAN do it but yes it will be hard. I did it with my first (not by choice) and I made it until they had to do a section for other reasons, getting to 10 was the hard part, pushing helped a little. Either way all labors are different, I hope yours is sinch! Good luck honey!
Claire- Glad to hear you had a good appt. and it is very exciting that you are making all your decisions!!! I have started to think about my birth plan, but i am still deciding on some things. I think it is great that you are going without drugs, but i am not sure how i want to handle that either. I still need to discuss all my options with my Dr. and i am hoping that birthing classes this weekend will clear up some of my questions!!!
Kenny- I am with you about being scared of labor...I don't know if it is the whole process that scares me or just all of the unknowns!!
Krushing-no i dont think ive joined that forum but i will! need allthe support icangetwith breast feeding as my mother tried but never could get the hang of it!
I dont know why but im not scared of labour atal YET! im really loking forward toit at the moment! it might hit me more when the time comes nearer to giving birth, oh and as for natural birth i think im not worried about it because ive got so much encouragement from my mum and knowing that she had 4 children all natural makes me feel like i CAN DO IT!haha if you know what i mean!?
Mandy- yeah good pain,i can say it now but when its happening who knows! i am also using a tens machine for the start for at home so that will help with the pain! We are lucky that we have the option of gas & air as not everywhere has it,
Glad everything is going well with Alister...and he's head down! Reece was head down, but like I knew he would (he's stubborn), flipped and has been flip flopping ever since, so hopefully he'll get back head down in time, because I heard it hurts for them to manually turn them. I had my breast feeding class the other week. It was very interesting and intimidating for me! Don't know if you are, but you might want to join the breast feeding forum...those ladies over there offer a lot of support. As for natural birth...I'm with hkenny...scared and if I had a choice wouldn't, but if I had to I'm sure I could, just hope I don't!!!
oh yeah pethidine she did mention thatat maybe the start of the labour if its a long one!
Hkenny- why you scared of water birth? theres still a bed in the room and all you do is the last bits of labour in the pool, i couldnt imagine staying in the pool for too long and looking like a prune! lol
Good to hear all is well!! and good for you for sticking to it and doing the water birth!! I wanted to but ........I will admit I am to scared!!
glad it all went well claire! I had a waterbirth with my first daughter and that was the only labour I had nothing but gas and air with, so it must have made things easier, although it hurt like hell at the time. I hate having drugs of any kind so like you I prefer natural but with my last child I had pethidine because the midwife was a horror and she kept threatening me with a caesarian if I didn't have something. Don't ask me why, I think she just wanted me to shut up going on about the pain. It is hard Claire and difficult when it's your first but if you keep in mind this pain is a good pain because it's bringing your baby into the world, you can get through it and without drugs!
