There are soothing methods you can use but if it really hurts, something is wrong. I would make sure to ask as soon as you deliver to speak with the lactation consultant - most (or all?) big hospitals should have dedicated ones, although some might just have very experience post-partum nurses who can help as well. Good luck!
Congratulations to you as well! I can't wait til I'm days away from having my son. I go to see a specialist next week so hopefully I'll deliver at 38 wks too. I'm also wondering about lactating.. I haven't seen or felt any leakage but maybe thats because I don't touch my nipples.. The gd may have something to do with it as well. Im not sure. I will definitely ask about nipple creams at my breastfeeding class or next ob appointment because I refuse to have my baby drinking cow milk! Lol that cabbage thing is a little amusing, but I thought cabbage dries your milk up?!
Congratulations! I know youre ready because I'm about to go nuts waiting for the big day! I will try that strategy if I can touch them.. Its horrible! Thanks for your help..
Hi, I am 37 weeks 2 days and have also been diagnosed with gd, and as a result am being induced at 38 weeks so baby is not too big to deliver (8 days time). I have similar concerns about breastfeeding, not because of sensitivity, but rather that there has been no sign of anything, no leaking, nothing.
In terms of the sensitivity, there are things you can do, there are nipple creams that you can buy that numb the nipples if you struggle, your breast feeding councillor should be able to advise which one to use. Also, one piece of advice which I have received countless times, which you may find amusing, is that when they are engorged you should put cold cabbage leaves on them in your bra. This apparently sooths them.....
Hi Im 34 weeks 2 days also, we're almost there! My mom's had six children and breastfed them all so she's an expert haha and she told me to get a washcloth and, when showering, rub your nipples with it. Don't be extra rough or extra gentle and that'll help some to be prepared, but really you'll just have to wait until you can just get use to breastfeeding the baby. Hope this helped and it will be ok :-)
