I am 29 weeks and still sleep on my belly. My doctor said as long as I am comfortable to sleep however I get the most rest.

It has to do with the blood flow.. The baby lays on the artery and cuts off blood flow..

Apparently it can mean that the weight of the baby presses down on the a main artery and can slow down or even stop blood supply. I do wake up on my back but just roll on to my side as soon as i notice

You aren't supposed to sleep on your back because it could put weight on some nerves and limit oxygen to your baby, I think. But I always wake up on my back. It makes my hips hurt less and my back feel better. I think as long as you are propped up and not laying flat on your back that it is okay. But you will reposition yourself in the night if anything is uncomfortable.

My chiropractor actually told me everyone (even pregnant women) should sleep on their backs to maintain proper spine and neck alignment. He said it's just not usually comfortable by t h e third trimester. I always thought you couldn't but now I'm rethinking it.

I always wake up doing it for some reason, its the only way I'm comfortable so I think during my sleep I turn onto my back:-/ it would be nice if there wasn't so many rules lol, nearly there though (78 days)
Congratulations on your baby xx
