I'm sure they would have told you if there were any concern ... I think at this point you can relax and be thankful that things are going well.
You are concidered "advanced maternal age" if you will be 35 or higher when you deliver. That means that even if you are 34 when you conceive, but your birthday is before the due date you are labelled ... I know ... mean isn't it! :) The biggest difference in risk is chromosonal abnormalities. It's not so bad at 35 or 36 (I will be 36 when I deliver), but the closer you get to 40, the higher the risk.
OK thanks. I really didn't know. They didn't say anything about my last baby's screen, either. I would just really hope if there was something to be concerend about they would tell me.
At what age do they consider a woman to be "advanced maternal age"? At this point I am thinking I might want to have a third around the age of 35-36, I wasn't aware that risk factors went up so much in 6 or 7 years. Weird.
I'm glad they told you everything was great with your test. That's always great news to hear!
I don't actually recall getting the risk numbers with any of my other pregnancies. It may just be because I am "advanced maternal age" with this one and therefore at risk. When I got my first look (ultrasound paired with bloodwork at 12 weeks) we actually sat down with a gentic counselor. It was the counselor that called me later and again after the quad screen. When it came to the 19 week ultrasound, the tech consulted with the doctor before letting us go (said this was protocol because of the other testing we had done), and then told us everything was great!
I wasn't aware they gave you the results to the screen that they do. My doctor just told me, "we will call you if any of the results are bad." I didn't get a phone call. I go back to the doctor next week. Should I ask what my numbers were?
I've had all my testing as well. My first round was at risk for downs, but after the quad screen my numbers were much better. Down's risk: 1:1075 and Trisomy 18 risk:1:150000.
I had my ultrasound 2 weeks ago ... perfect baby girl. So, so far so good. Now, if we could just figure out how to get her to quit kicking me in the bladder! :)
Got my quad screen results back today and everything looks good!!!! Next week is our ultrasound so hopefully everything will look good there.
I just got the preliminary results of the amnio back- genetically normal baby girl. It's been a stressful five days- I've been awake since 2:30 this morning.
jrobertson: Everything will be fine. Just noticed that you are only 26 yrs old---already a very low risk patient:)
My blood work result is back. Down's risk: 1:4300 and Trisomy 18 risk:1:10000 so I feel good so far, next is quad screen in 2 weeks.
Well I went to the doctor today and I am having my quad screen done and my AFP done on June 1st. Will let you guys know for sure then.
chinesebones - good luck with your amnio. Hope your results turn out good.
ss712 - Well I just graduated nursing school last week so the funds are a little low until I start my new job next month and by then it would have been too late to do the ultrasound one. We have state insurance (my husband works for the state) but it's more than what we could afford at this time. Now push it back a month or two and we would have been fine but I figure if the blood work is abnormal they will send me for an ultrasound anyway so hopefully everything turns out ok.
I am still waiting for blood report.
jrobertson: even I have a bad insurance but this might be my only baby so I went ahead with all the testing.
The US looked great, but when it was combined with the bloodwork the result was an increased risk for Downs. (1:60) When I spoke to the perinatologist, she said that what pushed my risk from normal to high was my age (42 at delivery.) If I were 35 the results would have been considered normal.
Just to know one way or the other, I'm having amnio done this Thursday.
I am just getting the blood work done because the other screen it about $1000.00 and my insurance doesn't cover that one. Good luck ss712 with the results. Hope they are good.
I got US done, looked good. The blood test results are pending, just praying everyday since I am 35 as well.
