I am 21 weeks and have been struggling to find a comfortable sleeping position myself since last week. However I try to shuffle between left and right side throughout the night. For me, sleeping on any one side for a long time gives pain to that side and I am losing sleep over that. Any which way I am not feeling satisfied with my sleep these days.

At 17 weeks fine as long as it's not uncomfortable for you. I'm 24 weeks and I sleep on my back. Technically, we are suppose to sleep on our left side because it helps the blood flow but for me that's uncomfortable.

I think it's fine to sleep however you are comfortable.  Your uterus isn't big enough to squish your vein yet and when it is you'll probably feel better propped with a lean to your left with pillows behind you. I am uncomfortable on my belly even now at 17 weeks so I hope Kristika you find a comfy position for you.

I have opposite problem. I sleep on my belly. I'm dreading trying to sleep when my belly gets too big.

I feel terrible if I sleep on my back because I start to cramp. I think that's my body telling me that my baby is in stress. If your body gives you warning signs then dont ignore. If not then I wouldn't stress.
Momtothesecondpower I think that is your body giving you a warning to roll to your side also. If you want to avoid your nightnares, you can try sleeping on your side with a big pillow behind you so that you lean but don't go completely on your back. For the most part it works for me.

After week 16 it gets less and less safe to sleep on your back bc the weight of the womb presses on the vein that bring blood from your heart to your lower back!! I am having a very hard time with this bc I wake in the middle if the night in my back from having nightmares fighting fake people off! I do not know what to do about it!
