I have brought a monitor regardless of the size of my house. I spent £140 on one (not sure what that is in $) the one i got has a breathing mat with it so it tells me if the baby stops breathing. I think they are one of the most important things to buy for your precious baby.

I don't feel it to be necessary to buy a baby moniter, my house is tiny.  It's a three bedroom(cept one of the rooms in now an office), one bath.  All on the same level.  Not to mention the walls are paper thin, so you can pretty much hear anything and everything that goes on, inside and out.

And about the play pen, I got one for my shower, it's a really nice one that come with the bassient on the top along with the changing table.  We are planning on using that in our room for the first few months so we don't have to get up and run to the other room, not to mention it has a changing table on top.  Once he gets older we can use it in the living room while I'm in the kitchen, so that I can keep an eye on him as I'm doing thins around the house.  Plus it will be nice to have when I start back to work and need to leave him by my mom's house during the day.  Or if we go on vacation, we can take the baby with and he'll have somewhere  to sleep and we wont need to pay the extra money to rent a crib.  Needless to say I can't see how anyone could live without one.  My friend who has a one year old says that it's the best thing, because you can put your baby in it and not have to worry about where he/she is.

As for the first aid kit, I don't really have one, I mean I have bandaids, baby tylenol, and all of the other things that I might need, but they were all bought seperatly or they came with the adult first aide kit I go.  So I'm pretty well stocked up on that kind of stuff.

I bought a monitor when I had my first baby and at the time we were in a small house, but it was so hard to hear anything on the second floor. Also, while he was napping, I could go outside and do things close to the house and the monitor still worked just great! I spent about 50 bucks on mine...I know, pricey, but I love it because of the distance factor. So I will be using it again this time around. And now we have a bigger house, so it will really come in handy. It's the Graco digital audio monitor. It has a vibrating setting or the regular settings to hear baby
.
Someone bought me a first aid kit with my first, but I will probably put another one on my registry for this baby. I can't remember which one it was.

Also, I have a co-sleeper that attaches to the bed for sleeping and later turns into a playpen. My son hated being in it when it was a playpen, so I never forced it. I don't blame him, it's such a tiny little space to try to play in! =) But it folds up easily for travel and when he is older he can use it to sleep in when he outgrows the other part.

Hey Radhika, i have a monitor that i bought it was 18 bucks. Not sure how useful they are, I have a 5 bedroom home and all bedrooms are on upper level. Only time i see my little one being alone is when she is sleeping in her crib which i may wait a couple of months b4 letting her sleep in it.

My friends and some family members are against play pins, they say they are cages for babies and a waste of money.  Well i got one with the gift cards i got at my babyshower, bcuz when we are downstairs i can change her on the changing table that is attached and if she naps it has an attached bassinet.  And i may need to put her in the actual playpin when i am cooking or doing dishes and i can bring it near kitchen so i can keep an eye on her.

I guess it depends on the individual and what they plan on using it for.

As far as a first aid kit, you can buy those items over the counter, which you may always want in your babies diaper bag: example, gas drops, tylenol, thermometer, nose aspirator, bandaids, guaze tape, tweezers, hand sanitizer, disposable gloves etc.  First aid kit really is just a bunch of items you need when away from home, bucz hopefully you will have all these items at home.

you can always google baby first aid kit to get an idea of what to pack in the baby bag or have it in a separate case inside the diaper bag.

Hope this helps some:)

Why are you having you babyshower so late, that is soooooo close to your due date, what if you deliver early, DH is gona have a time putting all those gifts away, your gona be to exhausted to help.  I ll be watching your post waiting to see the pics and how your shower was.  I had mine july 26th and we are still putting things away, the rest of the parts just came yesterday for the dressor so DF will start putting it 2gether some time within the next week i guess.
