35 wk appt

So I went to the dr today and they did the first internal exam and the dr said that my cervix was all the way forward, that I was 2 cm dilated and 50% efaced. He said that I definitely won't see 40 wks and expects me to deliver at about 37 wks. Does this sound right? I've heard that people stay at 2cm for wks at a time am I missing something here? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated =).

Hi. My name is Danielle. I don't post very often, but I am due Sept. 2nd and get on here every once and a while! At 35 weeks I was 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. I will be 39 weeks on Thursday and I'm now 4cm dilated and 85% effaced. Every woman's body is different. Like NOla0805 said some women can be dilated for weeks and still deliver on or after their due date and some can be completely closed and deliver within hours. This pregnancy is definitely different from my first pregnancy where I was only dilated to a 1 at my 39th week appt. and 2 days later my water broke and 8 hours later my daughter was born. So it can really vary from woman to woman, pregnancy to pregnancy! Good Luck though! Even if you don't deliver until 40 weeks it's still exciting to hear huh? The end is near! Congratulations!

It is so hard to tell.  You could very well stay just like that for 2 or more weeks.  My co-worker was 3 cm dilated for almost 4 weeks. My doctor said that some people in your situation can stay that way for weeks and others can look nowhere near ready and deliver the next day.  It is just all over the map.  Your doctor is probably just going with his best guess based on his experience.  So I might get things ready for an earlier delivery (don't worry 37 weeks is considered full term) but don't be suprised if it is later.

Good luck!
