I think you should just choose whatever you like. I personally was named after other people in my family. (My full name, not just my middle name) But it's not a tradition for us or anything. In my case, DF is the one who got to chose our little girls name. And I liked what he picked so we went with that.
I think you and your hubby should give your baby whatever name you want to give him and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. You two are the ones who have to be happy and satisfied with it, not anyone else. My son got my grandfathers middle name because I wanted him to but I named my daughter a name I liked, it had nothing to do with anyone I know. Good luck picking!!
my first name for her is just a name that i came across that i love - the middle name is the same as my mom and me
Lol I think you should name your child however, and after whomever or whatever you want, it's your child. I do think it is old fashion to automatically assume the middle name has to be after someone.
Of course if you feel strongly about a relative and want to acknowledge them that way then that's perfectly great, but you shouldn't have to feel obligated to do so :)
My daughters first name is after my grandmother, but I actually chose the name first because I loved it, and it was just coincidence that it was her name too (because I had wanted to acknowledge her in some way) so it worked out in my favor. Her middle name though is just a name I simply like!
