So you have to ask what harm the doctor did. Even a couple of weeks early is detrimental to the baby. I guess delivering babies is terribly boring, so they take out the knives, or induce, or whatever. C-sections in the US are around 33 per cent. That is about four times what is medically indicated.
I agree with you completely. My uncle, who was a very conservative doctor, taught us that you should only resort to surgery (of any kind) when nothing else worked. For that reason we have all chosen our ob/gyn's very carefully, and the newest generation are employing midwives.
One of my daughters has very large babies. All of them were born naturally, with neither induction nor c-section. So size alone does not determine special measures.
These measurements can be way off , I've heard of many women pushing out 12 pd babies.. so I think you could be induced if need be
my mom had a 12pound 4ounce baby naturally,.. its possible just because the baby is "big" doesn't mean the babys head is huge maybe babys just long? and they told my sister her baby was already 10pounds 2 ounces and induced her 2 weeks early and baby was only 7pounds 9ounces.
My friend was told ahe should expect a 9lb baby when they induced her.. baby turned out to be 11lb5oz! She started out being induced.. then had to have a C section.
Their estimate can always be off by several pounds. I had a friend that was induced early because the doc said baby was already 9 pounds at 37 weeks. He ended up only being 6 pounds 10 ounces!
Well, if your doctors are giving you a choice. I would go with the induction for a few reasons. 1) Although, the baby is big, you can always get an epidural or some form of medication to ease with the pain when it comes time to push. 2) I personally am not a fan of any type of major surgery when its not medically necessary. 3) If you're not afraid to push that 10lb baby out, then go for it. Less recovery time, most that could happen is you tear a bit, which stiches will take care of and you may not even feel them with an epidural.
As for the C-section, like I said unless there are some kind of complications where your pelvis is too small or you're way past your due date and your baby is just getting bigger then you may want to consider your doctors opinion for which option is best for you. 1) It is a bit of a longer recovery. 2) You do have to consider it as a major medical procedure (although women go through it all the time) 3) If you have a choice, go with what's comfortable for you.
Hope all this helps...
My mother had to have a c section with my brother an he was 9lbs 6ounces. You might get a c section too. Induction is usually when your late (after your due date) or so I've heard. (:
Im.not sure but good luck hope it all goes well x
