Can you do sit ups?

Are sit ups safe during pregnancy? If so which ones?

Mrs g is right- if you are not sure what kind of exercises you could do, go to physio and he/she teaches you to exercise safely. I work as a physio myself so I know we know that stuff:)

Its good to do some core muscle exercises as it helps with pelvic girdle pain. My physio told me this as i have been getting pain in relation to my pelvis due to the ligaments stretching.

I'm just curious as to what your doctor said.... I've heard that if you never worked out before you shouldnt do it while your pregnant, and if your use to working out it's perfectly fine.

Working out is perfectly safe for you and your baby. You do not need to consult your dr if u worked out regularly before pregnancy.  Your body will tell you when ur tired or in pain.  You can still do Pilates if you want to.  Consulting your dr is for ppl who never workout.

There are MANY factors to consider before you do any of those things that people are suggesting.  You should talk to YOUR doctor about what is safe for YOU.  Blindly giving advice or taking it is ignorant and potentially dangerous for you and your baby.

I have done a lot of research and spoken to a lot of trainers about working out while pregnant. Absolutely working on core muscles is important. Guess what you're going to be using when you deliver! Having a strong core will also help you bounce back faster after baby is born.

With that in mind, after your first trimester you should avoid any excersizes done while laying flat on your back (such as sit ups and crunches) as this position can restrict blood flow to the fetus. There are plenty of other ways to target these muscles though.

Remember that you should always consult with your doctor as there may be factors in your pregnancy that limit you from doing other activities as well. And never push yourself too hard when you're pregnant,  not like regular training. Always listen to what your body is telling you.

You'll also find that the more active you are the more energy you have and the fewer aches and pains you have. It's a lot easier for your muscles to stretch when they're stronger.

Good luck!

Your muscles will be tearing apart.  Period.  It isn't even helpful for you to do them, I mean unless you're trying to restrict the area in which your baby grows.  The pains and aches we feel being pregnant are our muscles and ligaments stretching and tearing.  I'm not sure why you would risk it.

Thanks girls, I'm used to doing Pilates but I've stopped and my stomach feels very flabby, but I'm also bloated. So I thought if I did some sit ups it might help with the bloating. I go to see my doc today so I'll ask to make sure.

You can try. And u should use muscles in abs more specifically the lower abs.  Laying on back is not recommended so other ab exercises might be better
