No it doesn't give more legal rights to the dad.. u can choose how u want the name n if u want to just be both last names or hyphenated. Now if u r not married with the father it doesn't establish paternity either. But u can name him what u want at the hospital. If ur not married once u go to court n establish paternity then even if u didn't include the dads last name they will change it. The court can order both last names or even hyphenate it also. If u r married then u just choose it the way u want it n when u apply for the ss number fill out the application with how u want the last names to appear.
