Sodium nitrites

I am 22 weeks pregnant and type 2 diabetic so I am very cautious about what I put into my body. Tonight I ate turkey sausage and after realized in the ingredients it contains sodium nitrite (2% or less) I have heard nitrites are a big no no during pregnancy and  i am freaking out! Will everything with baby be okay? What are the concerns with nitrites? Birth defects? Misscariage? Or am I just over reacting and will be okay as long as it is in moderation and not a everyday thing?! Please help!!

Sodium nitrites are in a lot of meats and sausages, so just trying to eat them minimally is what my Dr told me. I've had some sausage that had some in it while pregnant, and it wasn't a big deal. Just try not to eat saudages/meats that have it everyday

I am pretty sure it's all about moderation when it comes to sodium nitrates...less than 2% is pretty low. As long as you didn't eat a ton of it and aren't eating things with sodium nitrates for every meal, you and your baby will be fine. Try not too stress too much. :-)
