Umbilical Cord?

Okay so I started have false labor contractions the other night. When I realized it was probably false labor and not real labor I went and laid down. When the contractions started dying off I started to itch and then my whole body itched. I woke my husband and told him we need to go in. I then realized I was covered in hives. My little lady also stopped moving then. I went in and they monitored her and during one of my contractions her heart rate dropped. They kept us for another hour of monitoring. I had 4 more contractions in this hour and they said she was fine and we could go home.

I had a dream about a week ago that the cord wrapped around her neck... I'm so worried now that it is. I have an appointment today but it scares me that she could be in danger. According to my first due date we are 38.3 and according to the due date after my first ultrasound we are 37.5. I'm scared my doctor will just blow me off and something will happen to her... any mommies have advice?

Surprisingly 80% of babies are born with the cord around their neck. It isn't dangerous most the time but it can be and if it was around your babies neck and causing concern they will catch it because usually it will drop below 70 bpm.

Well my OB didn't like that her heart rate dropped and had me sent in for more monitoring... he said if it keeps dropping I'll have to go in for daily monitoring. The nurses on Monday didn't really give me any information and neither did the on call doctor (I can't stand this doctor anyways). Hopefully the nurses working now will give me more information when I get done. My OB said I should have gone back in 24 hours to make sure it's not a reoccurring thing.

I knew that babies lose weight after birth. My little brother is 5 and my sister is 2. I was there for all of their labor and delivery, I have a lot of new born expierence. But when it comes to L&D I'm clueless since this is my first child. Thank you :)

Well,  how low did the heartrate go,  did she tell you?  If it hovered around 120 or more during the dips you're completely fine.

If they had any real concerns - the heartrate going near 100 for a few moments before coming back up - it's unlikely they would have released you.

What else they don't tell you,  is when you have the baby they expect and want the baby to lose a little weight at first.  The nurses often say "your baby lost 5 ounces overnight" and if you say oh is that bad,  they say well no,  as long as he doesn't lose 10% of his body weight you're okay.

What they don't tell you,  is they WANT the baby to lose a little at first,  proving that the kidneys and bowels are working fine,  and the baby is peeing well.  If the baby doesn't have that dip in weight they have real concerns that the excratory system doesn't work.

Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy -

I didn't realize that. The nurse seemed concerned when she came in and told me. That's frustrating! Thanks ladies!

I don't know why they didn't tell you that they expect fetal heart rates to drop during contractions.   It's a normal and expected thing.

Best wishes for your appointment today.
