abnormal cells

Im thirteen weeks and I had my pap smear. It came back with abnormal cells. I have a lot of concerns. Ive actually had a friend who had her test come back abnormal and she had precancerous cells and they ended up having to remove part of her cervix. They dont know anything yet until I do another test next month. I dont know it will impact my baby or me. What if it is something like that? Is there anything they can do? Will I lose the baby? Will I be able to have kids again? I know unless you have been through this you may not be able to answer any questions especially without more testing. I guess I'm just upset and could some support. Next month seems like a long time to find out something like that.

I had precancerous cells before getting pregnant and had surgery to remove them with some of my cervix. If it is precancerous cells, I highly doubt that they would do the surgery while you are pregnant. I'm 33 weeks now and because of the surgery I had years ago, my cervix is shorter than normal and my little girl has been trying to make her appearance early! Just stay calm and wait for them to do the test. They will do what's best for you and the baby :)

I'm really hoping it's nothing. I just know what happened to my friend and she had the worse case scenario. But she wasn't pregnant. Im just hoping that its going to be ok and if it is something more that I will be able to have more than one kid.

I should say I was about 8 weeks pregnant or more when I had the colposcopy ( they look at your cervix threw a microscope to look for any cells after applying a vinegar solution)

It is very very unlikely that there are precancerous cells. I had an abnormal papsmear about 10 months ago, my doctor advised a follow up papsmear for 6 months. I ended up getting a colposcopy about 2 months ago and everything is completely healthy. Your body tends to shed the abnormal cells, they are usually left over from healing, can be from a small infection or even giving birth. My doctor was very clear with me that they would only do a biopsy if there was something very present and obvious. And that even then a biopsy is 100% safe for baby, they just worry about mama bleeding . If they think there is a chance of precancerous cells they wait till after you've had baby, and then do a scrap of your cervix/uterus. If they found something very obvious, biopsies it and found that you did indeed have cancer they would most likely have you birth baby at a safe but early month, and do surgery or remove your uterus. But that is absolutely worst case scenario and so very unlikely. Even just the chance for it to be precancerous (not cancer) is so very rare. Most of these take care of themselves, please do not worry yourself sick.
