Everyone is right about it being bad for baby but I smoke as well. My doctor wants me to quit cold turkey but I've been cutting back to the point I'm down to 3 or 4 a day and I cut back one more every couple of weeks because that 4 will start to make me sick after awhile and it'll go down to 2 or 3a day so by the middle of my second trimester I should be done completely. It's not something I consciously decided to do though it's something my body just picked up on its own and I just go with it because I know quitting is ultimately what's best for baby

Smoking is unhealthy for your baby, but you know that already by all these commercials on tv. And from what others say...i understand that quiting is hard but if you can get down to 5 a day then wow that's great...next week try 4 a day, then 3, and work your way down....I'm sure you can do it. Maybe even try only smoking a half of cigarette and the other half later... you'll be able to quit...good luck.

I'm a smoker I smoked with my last two girls. Both my girls are healthy and weighed good weight. First was 8.5 second was 9.11. I don't think it's a good thing but it's think there its a lot worse things I could be doing.

Smoking can affect your baby in many unhealthy ways but completely quitting just like that can be bad for you to i hear. As long as you cut back and know that your pregnancy is going well you should be ok. I don't smoke because I don't like it but my mom did with me and I came out completely healthy with no health issues.

Before I was pregnant I drank tons of coffee, smoked cigarettes and weed regularly.  So that would be so many withdrawals if I quit all at once. I am 7wk5d now. I have a cup in the morning and maybe a tea at night. Usually herbal but sometimes I crave chai. So no withdrawal symptoms and I'm not taking in too much caffeine. I cut back from 3/4 pack of smokes a day to probably 5 or 6..still working on it. As far as the weed goes I have a hoot or two if I feel nauseous. I don't even feel a buzz (since I used to smoke so much), it's just enough to knock out the nausea and give me an appetite. It's great that there's so many people that can quit their habits cold turkey. But there's lots of us who just can't.  Addictive personalities rule the brain, withdrawal symptoms are worse for us than those without addictive tendencies.  Weaning is sometimes the only choice.
