I would pay no mind to it, i seeiously doubt any law enforcement is going to come busting down your door or holding stake outs to catch mommies allowing non relatives to keep their children while they work an 8 hour shift lol. Im not going to pay no mind to it, i mean i dont go around breaking laws but i dont think anything will come of this and i dont think any states are going to advice police to waste man hours on this lol so i think your good, i wouldnt stress it or even give it another thought lol
She is your aunt by marriage, mae, even if they were divorced.
Did you read the link I posted? She is your aunt.
I'm in Alabama and since she and my uncle divorced then she isn't technically my aunt anymore so Idk I just think it's ridiculous. And she doesn't have time to get licensed we have looked into it and couldn't be done before I have this baby. And it makes it worse that she works for the local police department and is still willing to take the risk.
How would they know she isn't blood what do make them blood test just say she is blood
Sorry, the real message there was kind of "hidden" in my extra long post.
Your Aunt Gigi, if she's related to you by marriage, is legal to keep your daughter.
mae, I looked up the law, and it's ridiculous. Under this law, you can't even invite a child to your home for a sleepover. A birthday party lasting more than 4 hours is out. Coupla kids down the street want to come play nintendo and you invite them to stay for dinner - you can't. After 4 hours their time is UP.
This applies up to the age of 19. So if your kids comes home from college and wants to bring a friend for the weekend, hope the friend is 19. Or even if your college kid wants to have a group of buddies over to hang out for the evening, nope. Someone over 19 has to be in the home and "supervise" them.
As it's written, this law is completely nuts. I think every single family would be in violation of this, including all the politicians and CPS workers and the cops that come to arrest you for having a child house guest.
But. There is a clause for relationships by "blood, marriage or adoption". So if your Aunt is actually legally related to you by marriage, she's good to take care of your children.

That's ridiculous. As long as you trust a person with your child then it shouldn't be anyone else's business.
Yea. My mom wants to retire (she hates her job) great! She can watch my kids... But then that seems unfair to my mom's boyfriend's grandkids...
That is completely ridiculous! What is even the purpose of this? Protecting kids? Ive seen and heard of plenty of ppl with a license and something horrible happens to someones kid! Where is this at? Maybe start a petition
Where is this law? What state are you in?
I think every state is different. In colorado someone who isnt licensed can watch 2 children from one family. I am a childcare provider and I know they put these laws up to protect children. The rate of children dieing in the care of others is a lot. 90 of deaths accrue in an unlicensed home. So yes it ***** for some people but it saves many lives of children.
It doesn't take much to get licensed.. has she looked into it?
That really is a crazy law for those who do not have blood relatives or family to help. I would consult a lawyer on it, I am sure there is probably some form or paperwork loophole.
