so unfair:(

Really mad.right now cos my college won't accept me onto a course cos I'm pregnant!  I'm only 9 weeks and they basically said when ur preg u don't have the right mind and I will drop out cos every other pregnant person did. Yet I can't do the course next year cos it will clash with my son going to school and my partner does 6am work shifts. Just felt humiliated and wanted to cry, I have done a course when I was pregnant beforeand I did all the exams and passed it I literally took a week off when I had the baby, I feel like I can't be pregnant in order toget an education :(

Talk to a dean or something. It is absolutely illegal. Pregnant women teach all the time. I was 21 and had custody of my 13 year old sister and my mom was fighting cancer at the same time and I was going to school to be a teacher and I was working as a preschool teacher. Not to mention I had two dogs at home and a husband who was getting two degrees at the time. Things happen, doesnt mean you cant over come them and still be successful in your endeavors

I'm doing childcare and I'll just be in a classroom all year and ive complained to them and told the college that's it's discrimination and I'm paying for the course so who are they to tell me I can't do it? It's not like they're paying the course for me. The college said I'll get a reply by Friday whether or not I'm allowed on the course. It's disgraceful why should me being pregnant stop me from getting an education :( thanks girls for your support, means a lot.xx

They can not discriminate against you because you are pregnant. The only classes where it is acceptable to deny you entry based on pregnancy are chemistry or artclasses dealing with chemicals that could harm the baby if inhaled, etc, classes that are too physically taxing such as rock climbing, scubadiving, martial arts, etc. You need to contact a lawyer. Most public defenders at the courthouse will give you advise for free if you call them. Good luck!

The previous poster is right its illegal to deny you a class that you need just because your pregnant unless its something potentially dangerious. The only classes at my university that I can think of that wont allow pregnant women are rock climbing and martial arts (both are understandable).  But telling you its because you wont have the right frame of mind and other pregnant women have dropped the course is outright discrimination.   Go to the dean. Thats worked for my friends and I in the past. Our dean was furious when he found out the stuff some of his staff was pulling that was both illegal and believe me the dean would know that!

That's discrimination and it's illegal. If it had been because the class could be dangerous to you and baby, it's different. If it's just because "you'll probably quit", you need to contact the EO rep at school. If there isn't one, call a lawyer.

That is awful! I didnt even know they could stop you! I mean what's it to them...ur the one paying for it. I know not all schools have that policy. Maybe try finding somewhere different for school.
