worry new mommy. my daughter has a velamentous marginal cord what are the risk?

Hello..

I'm Reagans mommy. I have a velamentous marginal umbilical cord an I'm worry because she only weight 1 lb 14oz an will be in my third trimester on Saturday. Can someone else explain to what this is, the affects of it, an if this can make her still born. I'm confused because this is my first child. I don't want anything to happy to her

The cord vessels in a velamentous cord insertion do not insert directly into the placenta. Rather, they insert into the membranes of the sac. You need to make sure there are no cord vessels that cross over the cervix, a condition called vasa previa. You should have ultrasounds for fetal growth every 3-4 weeks. Pay special attention to the fetal abdominal circumference.

That's when the umbilical cord  abnormally inserts itself at the edge of placenta.  It can cause stillbirth, placenta previa or abruption. Your most likely are going to deliver early via a c-section , however the baby is measuring small. I would only assume the doctor is waiting to deliver when she reaches over 2 pounds. I'm surprised your doctor hasn't explained this to you. If you have concerns call your OB and have him call you back so he could address your worries. Best of luck to you.
