Long cycles and TTC

Hi all! I am new to this forum, just having come over from the miscarriage forum. I have been ttc for over a year and have extremely long cycles. Between 43 and 47 days. I had a m/c in Aug. at 6 weeks and am feeling like it's never going to happen again. I have a beautiful little girl (almost 3) and we would really like to have a new addition to our family. Does anyone else here have really long cycles? If so, what have you been doing to ttc? I have had blood work done, and was told everything was perfectly normal. I'm finding it very frustrating that even though everything's "normal"  I am having such a difficult time. Thanks ladies!!

I have long cycles also. Mine are between 42-47 days

I've always had long cycles for as long as I can remember. We conceived our son 6 years ago with no problems, so I'm not sure why this time around has become so difficult.

We've been trying to conceive our 2nd child for almost 13 months now with no luck. I've been charting BBT since January

I'm in my TWW now, so hopefully there's some good news this time around. If not, I'll be making a trip to my doctor to find out if there's something wrong.

******SSSSSSSSSBBBBBBBBBBBDDDDDDDDDDD******** to everyone :)

Erica...Just throwing in my two cents...I've never tried acupuncture...but i have only heard great things about it for regulating cycles and helping to minimize PMS and cramps.  If you find out about it can you pass some info on to me because these past few cycles have been bad for the PMS!

Thanks for all of the responses!! I'll be looking into FertilAid as well....thanks hkenny and Bam!!
Tiger, I don't know if you remember, but it took 14 weeks for AF to come back after my m/c. It really messed up my cycles and before that I had a 38 day cycle every month. Before I had DD it was quite messed up too, 2 periods a year. The doctors chalked that up to my bulimia at the time. I'm healthy now and just don't get why these cycles are so long!! I had a full list of blood work done and EVERYTHING came back normal! I have had acupuncture before, so no big deal (not too bad with needles-- have tatts and piercings). I just might look into it. There's a naturopath (?) down the street, so I might stop by and check to see what they have :D
Thanks again to all who have responded to this. It has been weighing heavily on my mind since the Dr. told me it might be the stress of ttc that was throwing my cycles so out of whack.
Hugs to all!! Erica :D

Hi Erica,

We met in the miscarriages forum. I too have extremely irregular cycles and ovulation. Most months i would go for at least 45 days without a period. My longest cycle was 76 days. I went to a gyno and she was going to start me on metformin which may promote ovulation and if that didn't work after six months she would put me on clomid.

I was reluctant to take drugs so i gave accupuncture with chinese medicine a go. For three short months i recieved accupuncture evfery three weeks and i took two doses of herbs. On the third month i conceived and now i am 22 weeks pregnant.

A lot of people are scared of accupuncture and i was too. It wasn't as bad as i thought and was the thing that reulated my cycles. I hate needles but everytime i went there i would tell myself it would be worth it.

And it was!

Good Luck :0)

bam- i cant be sure b/c the first month ttc i didnt take and didnt get pregnant the second month i took it for 3 weeks and was pregnant. i think b/c i chart and knew my body i got pregnant but i cant ignore that i was on it! after doing ALOT of research on it i think it does help women get pregnant. it prepares your uterus for implantation and that is only a good thing!!

hkenny - do you think that the FertilAid is what helped to get your BFP?  Elisha123 was asking about it as well.

GNC carries a different blend that is called Fertility Blend for Women (and they have one for men).  I have compared that with FertilAid and they both seem to have basically the same ingredients.

steph- i was going to recommend fertilaid. i took it and know a few people on here who took it ,one lady had been ttc for 2 yrs and after 3 weeks on it she got her BFP> its all natural. basically it just prepares your uterus and body for a babe. they have it for men too. type it into google. the first website is the cheapest.

as bam said i think its really important to chart your temps, that will tell you if you are in fact ovulating. that is a super long cycle!! it must be frustrating. i wouild also suggest asking your dr what thyroid test he did, my holistic dr did a t3 t4 test and i needed pills and my regular dr said i was fine. after being on them i see a huge difference,in temps, and how tired i was.

Erica- As you know this is my first month using OPK's and I went through 12 without a postive so I don't think I'll be doing that again.

Thanks Bridgette!! You are, as always, a wealth of knowledge :P

All I can say is keep tracking your CM.  It's my understanding that it should only last for a day or two before O.  Also, like I put in the other post BBT could be a great idea for you and give you some more insight into your cycles.  I don't think there is even any reason for you to wait till your next cycle to start, if you haven't O'd yet then the temps will tell.

Hang in there, if you determine O, then you know that your cycle will only last 12-16 more days.

Bam-- I really don't know when/if I O so I don't want to chance it right now. I'm with Steph on that one...I really don't want to have to buy a 47 day cycle supply of OPK's, not when we're paying off so much debt right now....

Here's something...I've had EWCM since CD36...does that mean I'm just Oing now?? If so, does that mean I'll have a 50 day cycle...I won't be able to stand it!!!! Arrgh!!!!

Steph - yes that's a tricky one, since it's so important not to take after O.  I really hope your temps figure themselves out soon.

Well as you know I have had some pretty crazy long cycles since my m/c...Why can't this all be a little less complicated :P

bam- I was thinking about taking the EPO, but since I am not getting a positive OPK or a definative answer from my temps...I don't want to chance taking it after O.

How do you feel this cycle, now that you have been taking a "break" from TTC?  Have you thought anymore about trying Chasteberry (Vitex) or EPO?

Yup, it was normal...I really don't know what to think about it all. Thanks for checking in :)
