I am pregnant with twin boys-they think fraternal. Neither my husband or I have twins on either side of our families as far back as we can tell. Also I wasn't taking any fertility drugs, no treatments just spontaneous twins they call it.
They think it may be due to my age - 39, and that I released more than one egg which can happen as you get older, ironically they also say it is a sign of declining fertility that causes the multiple egg release!
Fraternal twins do run in our family, but I'm pregnant with identical twins, which is not considered something that runs in the family. It's just something that happens & is more common in women who are over 35. It's funny you mention a dream, because I had a dream maybe 4 years ago that I came home from work & was greeted by my twin girls! Then my mom saw a psychic (at a party for fun) and she told my mom I would be having twins... Well, after ttc & finding out I have a t-shaped uterus (meaning it's extra small and not as ideal for multiples), my doctor decided to have me try IVF, only transferring one embryo. We even did a 5-day transfer instead of a 3-day, which is supposed to lower the risk of an egg splitting. Well, we were suprised to find out that it did split & we are now 15 weeks pregnant with identical twins =)
I'm pregnant with twins, and we have no family history. It came as a big surprise to us, as we just thought it was a good time to try for number 2, and were blessed with 2 and 3!
im with twins and there is NO twins in my family i was in shock
from what i read fraternal twins don't always run in the family. many factors can cause a women to faternal twins such as age, race, and any fertility treatments/drug they may have taken.
