New Here

Hi. I'm the mother of two year old twin girls born at 31 weeks, one of which has cerebral palsy. I'm just looking for other mothers to talk to about the exciting (and tiring) world of twins.

My twins weighed 3 lbs 12 ounces and 3 lbs 13 ounces. They were a pretty good size considering how early they were. They think my little girl may have had a placental stroke also, but they can't be for sure what actually happened. She seemed healthy when I brought her home from the hospital. Then at 3 months she started having seizures and nearly died. Thats when we found the brain damage and found out she probably had CP.

Hello,  I am 24 wks pregnant with non-idential twins. Dont know what sex they are, but am hoping for at least one girl. Otherwise I wil have three boys unders the age of 3! My son is 27 months. I have a cousin with a 1 yr old son with CP. They think she had a blood clot in the umbilical cord and he had a stroke in the womb. When he was born he seemed healthly, it wasnt until he was about 9 months that he was diagnosed. He can't roll, crawl, sit up by himself or walk. Other than that he is a cute happy bubbley baby. I have worried about CP because one of my twins only has one artery in its umbilical cord instead of two. It can be a sign of chromosonal defect, but nothing they have picked up on ultrasound. What worries me is that ultrasounds dont pickup everything.
Just curious what were the birth weights of your little girls?

Hi and welcome to our forum!  I am 24 weeks pregnant with twin girls, who are most likely fraternal.  I have a daughter who is 22 months old and keeps me on my toes.  :)

So far my pregnancy is going well, which is good considering we had to fly over the US last week for my brothers wedding (currently living in Germany) so we are enjoying being here, relaxing at my parents house and we fly back next week.

Hi and welcome!!   I am mom to 22 month old b/g twins, who continue to tire me out, but not as much as they used to that first year.  I imagine things are a bit more challenging for you with one child having CP, but I'm sure well worth all the double smiles and giggles all the same.

My twins were born at 32 weeks.  My son had had fairly significant motor delays the first 8 months, but came a long way with early intervention/therapy (no CP diagnosis).  My daughter may be starting EI again soon for speech delays.  They like to keep us on our toes!

Hi. No, my girls are definitely not identical. In fact, they don't even look like twins now that they are older. We are pretty sure that the cerebral palsy was a result of many different factors at birth. Of course they were born at 31 weeks, low birth weight, twin pregnancy, and I had an infection (a pretty bad one) when I delivered. So all those factors combined like quadruples the risk of having a child with CP. Of course, no one told me that then. I had to find it out the hard way afterwards. So just be aware that the risk is always there for anyone carrying twins (or anyone in general) but know that there are plenty of perfectly healthy twins running around too. I guess everyone just thinks that it could never happen to them. I can remember the doctor coming in to my room and explaining all the risk factors for delivering the girls that early. I was listening to him, but in the back of my mind I was thinking that none of that would happen. So just be cautious and aware and do EVERYTHING your doctor tells you to do. And hopefully you can make it full term with your babies.

I hope you dont mind me asking but are your girl twins identical? And also did you know of the cerebal palsy before you delivered or was it a result of having them at 31 weeks? I am 24 weeks with identical boys and always interested to hear about early deliveries due to the fact of being at high risk for it.
