twins sick

Oh boy what a night! My girls have been sick for past 3 days. One had fever which is gone now, but was waking up every 15-20mins between about 1:30am-3am. So with her waking up and crying made the other DD wake up also. Then this morning (her sis) the cying would not stop, nothing helped. Finally she fell asleep, but is so stuffy. I had her close to the humidifier, gave her benedryl during the day yest, then motrin at night. This morning put saline drops in the nose and sucked but only thin watery came out, no thick mucus. She is coughing a lot also. Yet I can hear the stuffiness/mucus when she is breathing. When one had these symptoms before, DR said do as I did this time and it worked but for now it is not working for sister. I emailed dr waiting for responce.

what would you do? suggestions?

Thanks for all the tips. Last night went pretty well. I gave them both nice warm baths. Then at night humidifier was on most of the night and they slept till this morning, not even any cry outs at night so that was wonderful. Only problem is that she does not want to eat anything, not even rice cereal. This morning I tried again, but no. She did have ovaltine milk so that was good. Maybe thats what she will have today, I'll not force her to eat and least milk will be in her tiny tummy. Hope they get well soon.

Thanks again.

I agree with the posts, get into the bathroom : ) We used the J&J vapor bath when my daughter had a cold and it seemed to help but it could have just been the warm water that helped drain her stuffy nose.

I know they make mucinex for children, but not sure about infants. Mucinex, get's the mucus out.  (And it works pretty well.)  Just thought I would mention it.  Pats on the back (as often as you can) also helps break up the mucus.  Hang in there.  Hope everyone feels better soon.

both of my boys had colds a few weeks ago. i felt SO bad. i didn't give them motrin we use infants tylenol which helps with the stuffy nose and fever and also helped them to sleep. i found giving them a nice warm bath with johnsons bedtime wash and lotion also helped them to sleep at night. i warmed their apple juice and just gave them extra lovins. their pedi said as long as they don't have a high temp (she said above 101) then there's nothing that can really be done. but all they had were colds (which the dh found out babies who are in day care (which ours arn't) get between 10-14 cold a year!!!!) and just had to get over them. and of course spread it to mommy.

Honey I wish I had some better news but that's about all you can do....only other thing I can tell you is take them in the bathroom and shut the door and turn the hot water on and let it get really steamy.....this helps alot......but besides that you are doing a good job momma....it's no fun trust me I've been there and done that
