Getting pregnant after D&C

I had a D&C in November, and ended up checking my HCG levels each week, because my pregnancy test was still positive.  They dropped each week until recently, and then long story short I had to have another D&C because there was still remaining tissue from the first one.  So, my levels went negative right after the 2nd one.  Ya!  My doctor wants me to wait 3 full cycles before trying again.  Is this an unnecesary amount of time?  I don't want to put a potential pregnancy at risk by trying to soon, but I have been waiting since November!

the big reason they want you to wait is because they scrape off the lining of your uterus and it takes a few cycles to get the lining built back up again and you have more of a chance of the embryo attatching to the uterine lining..hope that helps!

also the dr.s want you to wait at least 2 full cycles because the d and c makes your uterus lining so thin that soemtimes there is not enough in there for a baby to latch onto, that's another main reason why they say at least 2 cycels so that your lining can thicken to hold a healthy pregnancy.

i had 1st MC in oct 07, had the d and c.  it took 7 weeks for my pperiod to come back.  My doctor told me wait at least 2 normal cycles, but me and my fiance did not listen well and got pregnant again in dec after only one cycle.  Low and behold i had another MC.  it is not sure whether it was from not waiting long enough or whether i might have something like low progesterone.  I am going tomorrow for re-current pregnancy loss tests and hopefully we will find out.  Some women do not wait too long and have healthy pregnancy's but i know this time after just ahving my 2nd d and c on 2/12/08 after 2 MC's in 5 months, i am going to wait the 3 cycles.  Luckily i already am on my second cycel right now.  AF returned fast after the 2nd d and c.

good luck to you

Thank you!  I have also heard that a big reason they want you to wait is for dating purposes, which doesn't sound like a good enough reason to me!  Good luck!

Well, I had a D&C in Dec. ...My Doc told me to wait 3 cycles also.....I told him NO...I'm 34 and have no children and we want this bad....I asked what the risks were if we were to conceive prior to my having 3 cycles (no luck yet and I'm on cycle 4, so my Doc got his way)....anyway, all he said was that there's a chance of M/C if implantation happened in the same spot as previously, but that it was rare.  I've also heard from 'forum folk' on here :o) , that the reason that they tell you that is more for dating purposes.....If you have 3 cycles, you are somewhat regular again and it's easier for them to determine exact dates......I've been trying since my D&C, some say to wait to give your body time to heal.....I'm not sure how far along you were, but I was 9 weeks, and I considered my D&C as a period and chose to go ahead and try again...I think that it's personal preference.....Sorry for your loss and good luck in TTC again!
