At me pediatrician s office they have you hold down the arms and upper body while they give the needles in the legs. As soon as they are done you pick baby up and they usually stop crying in a minute. Talk to the baby the whole time

I took my mom with me and she was the one helping the nurse out with my daughter and she ended up crying with her. It might help if you take someone with you for support. You can also buy her some pediacare and when you get there her pediatrician can tell you how much to give her!

I gave my son Tylenol before the appointment so it was already in his system. He cried but was comforted pretty easily when I picked him up. Warm bath later helps too so they don't get as sore.

A good trick is (my daughter is 8 months) is to take a piece of paper and shake it all crazy after their shots. It'll distract from the stinging of the shot. One of the nurses did that for my kiddo and she stopped crying.

You're talking about pedialyte. Pediacare is basically tylenol for 0-36 months.

How the mother reacts to shots will impact the child through out it's childhood.

Mothers need to be calm,  and collected and not scream at the nurse or cry.

Really.

Gather yourselves together,  mothers.  It's not like your child is being murdered - the child is being helped with a vaccination. It's a little tiny pin prick,  followed by a little bit of soreness.

Your fearful reaction can scar your child for life and make them as fearful as you are.

I read recently on this board,  that a mother brought those birthday party blowers that unwind when you blow them.  Do that when your toddler has shots,  and encourage them to blow them.

For your infant,  remain calm,  and sweet,  and comfort your baby.
