Pregnant with a cold sore

I have had lots of question today! I have had about 3 cold sores on the inner corner of my lip in my life. Well today I feel like I am getting one. I have not had one since I have been pregnant and I was just wondering if the cold sore on my lip can affect the baby. I am 19 weeks. I am keeping the crack dry and being very careful not to touch it, but if ti does turn into a cold sore, can I take any medications or do I have to ride it out on its own? ANyone with advice for me it would be greatly appreciated!

You should double check with your GP or OB just to make sure Abreva  is okay.  Just be careful not to touch it and spread the virus...the cold sore virus (herpes simplex) is very contagious.

It's not giong to affect your baby.  I get them all the time.  My ob saw one last time and never said a word, just gave me the antibiotics I needed for the accompanying chest infection I had.

My son gets them HORRIBLY and he was prescribed a topical cream to be used on his, I asked my ob about having it on my hands and he said it was fine to use.

they dont yet know if abreva is safe during pregnancy because it has only been tested on animals. so they label it a category B.
