Baby's Early Eviction from the womb???

Why does it seem like so many women  are trying everything and anything possible under the sun to induce labor once they hit 37 wks or some even early than that like 35/36 wks?
I'm 35 weeks pregnant with baby #2 this pregnancy has not been a walk in the park.

With my son I asked my obgyn then not to tell me any progress in dialation, effacing, or thinning if he checked. I pretended to loose track of the last few weeks and enjoy my days. I plan on asking my obgyn this time not to tell me.
Because to me it seems that as soon as the Dr informs a woman that she is 1cm dialated she runs home to find ways to induce labor "naturally".

Hi there -

Just to reiterate what NicoleW09 has said - it's okay to disagree, but please do so respectfully without insult or shame.

Thanks,

Once again, we need to remember to be respectful of one another. If you don't agree with something someone has posted, it's best to move on and not respond.

Thanks,

I cant wait to have this boy out. Honestly. During this pregnancy, iv been push down the stairs, got rid of a guy, a facing single mother of two, my dad was sick, 911. Didnt pick up the phone, then it was to late, my dad was brain dead, we pulled the plug, lost my dad, my mom needs me and i cant do anything.  The whole familys mad im having another. An on top of all that, my dad took the money to the grave.

My first son came at 34 weeks, he was fine in the nicu for 2days and it was cause he had a reaction to a pill the doc gave me. Hes extreamly healthy. And this one is too.  Nothing wrong, right on time, hes fine.

I need to have him to go back to work b4 my mom and my kids and i go under.

I can understand most ladys want there baby in as long as possible, but they might love being pregnant, i dont.. lol some ladys, i think can handle stress better then others, pain and so on.

I want my kids and im done...

I think so too FreshLove, I'm soo much more patient this time around, I think it's because it really feels like it lasts forever the first time, this time I want to enjoy it and relax!

I agree with NicoleW09...this topic is sensitive because everyone has a different situation.

Let's remember to stay positive and supportive. We don't know what all is going on in everyone's pregnancies an there may be a medical necessity to induce. A lot of times mothers may not know the risks of trying to induce naturally or at home. It's important that we share the knowledge we have and not make the mother feel bad for being anxious for the birth of their baby. I'm not saying that anyone has stepped on any toes or anything, but this topic has the potential to go south pretty quickly.

Women have been fine with only 1 to 2 hrs of antibiotics before birth, and you don't know how fast or slow this one will go. Also, some doctors give you the antibiotics orally the few weeks before your due date if they are worried you won't make it or will go fast. I would ask your doctor about this before considering induction as induction has many risk as well (such as fetal distress, drop in blood pressure, increase in c-section rate, etc.). Either way, it's a good thing to look into both options on your own (induction vs. waiting and doing antibiotics) so that you know the risks associated with both. Best of luck!

My first time I was anxious to get labor started (didn't realize at the time that I was having long, drawn-out prodromal back labor for last week 1/2) by 37 weeks, but this time I realize I can wait, lol. I plan to enjoy the pregnancy as long as possible and baby will come when it comes. I think for a lot of women it's easier to be patient the 2nd time around.

Totally agree...i understand it gets uncomfortable...but carrying extraweight in your belly is going to be uncomfortable. I was delivered at 36 5 because of pre eclampsia and i even had an almost 8 lb baby. Another 4 weeks she wouldve been around 10 lbs. Yes i got uncomfy but the most i tried to get things going on my own was extra walking..and that was to help her drop and help with dilating a little (it worked because my dr appt where i was admitted 3 days before having her i was already at a 1.) But trying to induce at home is not safe...baby can go under stress and can pass meconium and end up hospitalized...i understand it gets uncomfy...i gained 13 lbs in one week because of water retention, i was hot my feet were so swollen they hurt and i couldnt hardly wear my husbands flip flops..i know what it can be like...but trying to induce without being under the care of a dr is asking for trouble and selfish.

Babyinjuly: I understand medical inducing for the mothers or child's sake. I hope everything goes good and well during your delivery.

But as far as being tired of being pregnant uncomfortable, ect any other non medical reason

My son was born at 38wks 4days after going into labor naturally but even then at the hospital I cried and said I wanted to go home because it wasn't time yet my due date was still 10 days away. Lol
Whether it was a plan pregnancy or not I'm pretty sure we all new it was gonna be a roller coaster ride with ups and downs twist and turns.

Makes me cringe every time someone who is not 37 weeks is looking to induce. Or even people wanting elective induction at the magic 37 week mark simply bc they are "done" being pregnant. I get it, I really do....however I've had both my kids too early and this time I'm doing every thing possible to keep this one in there until at the very least 37 weeks (never made it that far) I'm having to take weekly progesterone injections to keep my self pregnant along with strict bed rest....sheesh

I've never been induced and had 4 natural births, no drugs. But this time around I found out I some how have the group b strep. My last delivery only two hours. Now in my case I'm debating on being induced at 39wks for the safety of my son. I need a couple hours of those antibiotics for him to be safe, I'd hate for something bad to happen if I didn't get induced. Otherwise I'd never think twice of letting him come when he wants.

I personally am soo ready to not be pregnant, I have been under so much pain and discomfort that I cant stand it anymore. It hurts to walk, sit, stand, shower and to lay down, I cant sleep and the indigestion is killin me and the constantly worrying if my baby is ok and worrying if his birth will go ok is oddly the worst parts. Oh and the crying over everything is getting old aswell. But with all that being said I know my little man isnt ready yet, all his scans say hes a week or two ahead and his estimated weight is good, there is obviously a reason why he hasnt come yet and I dont want to rush him into coming but he is deff wanted out now lol. I know I am 1cm dilated but im not doin anything to make him come now even as bad as I want him out now

I agree I want to go completely natural but for this pregnancy im naturally going to try to induce labor at 37 weeks. And possibly if everything is going good at 39 weeks sew about my membranes getting swept. All so that my hubby can make the birth and spend at least a week with his daughter before a possible deployment. Makes me feel bad because I feel when they are ready they will come :(

I never induced naturally, even past my due date, it's not worth it!

Agreed. No matter how uncomfortable you are the baby will come when ready.

I'm not the most patient person (ask my hubby, lol) but I mean we have made it this far what's another week or 2 or even 5. It kinda gets me how some people say "induce naturally" using oils like castor, primrose, and other methods that seem very far being NATURAL.

I agree, I feel like nothing is worth risking ANYTHING that doesn't need to be risked, 2 weeks, even 4 weeks, is nothing. I get pregnancy is uncomfortable, painful, towards the end, but it's worth it and it's what we signed up for!
