Cramping, no period but negative HPT

I went to my ob/gyn on 1/23/08 for my yearly checkup and I told my ob/gyn that my husband and I are trying to conceive.  He did a routine check, prescribed me some prenatal vitamins, and told me Good Luck and to schedule an appointment as soon as suspect anything.  Well I was supposed to start my period on 1/30/08, but I didn't and still haven't, but the funny thing is I have been cramping light cramps as to what I would have during a typical pregnancy.  I have taken 2 home pregnancy test, but they were both negative.  Just wondering what to expect with these types of symptoms. Thanks!

Well, I tested positive at 3 days past AF. Do you know when you ovulated?

It's easiest to suspect PG if you know when you ovulated.
And what tests are you using?

You can check out peeonastick.com it's got all sorts of info on hpt's, but if you go to the dr. and ask for a test, MAKE SURE they give you a QUANTATIVE test NOT QUALATATIVE.

The first kind measures exactly how much HCG is in your blood, the second just gives a + or - .

Hello,

Home pregnancy tests differ in their sensitivity (i.e., the ability to detect the hormone of pregnancy when it is present).  The most sensitive of these are First Response Early Result and Clearblue Easy Earliest Results.  The earliest either of these might detect a pregnancy would be at the time of the missed menses (generally ~two weeks after conception).  When a HPT administered at the time of the missed menses returns negative it is recommended to repeat the test in a one week.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

I had 4 negative pregnancy tests, but had a lot of low abdominal cramping and was normally as regular a clockwork. I eventually had a positive test 11 days after my period was due. I have found out since, that I ovulate late on in my cycle.-So the home tests don't pick up the hormone that early. So don't give up hope, you may still be pregnant. Test again in another 4-5days. If you can't wait some hospital tests are more sensitive and also a blood test for your HCG level should give you a more accurate result. Hope this helps. Good luck  xxx
