Why I'm I 36 weeks and my doctor still hasn't checked me for dilation and when I asked him why he said I had to wait til 38 weeks & I won't be on week to week til 38 weeks either ? Like is that normal ? Like is anyone else's doctor like this? I need something to look forward too.

You should be on on week to week though. I'm 34 weeks today and now I'm gonna be seen weekly.

My Dr doesn't check for dilation at all, not until you are in labor. Her reasoning is because its pointless. Yes, some people like to know but it doesn't let you know if labor is gonna happen soon or not. Some women start dilating at 35 weeks and others don't start until a couple hours before labor begins. The only thing that matters is that once you are in labor that you are progressing at an acceptable rate.

I've never been checked before so maybe it is a blessing in disguise and I don't know how it actually feels. So maybe I do need to be thankful.

I would guess you are showing no signs in general of being near labor.  I had my child 10 days over 40 weeks and was 1 cm dilated for a month before I started to dilate more.  That is not an unusual pattern for first time moms.  Your doctor is not going to risk having issues so is probably just following his normal protocol that has worked for him and first time moms.  Try not to worry.  Being checked doesn't feel great so maybe it is a blessing in disguise.  Your time is soon approaching for delivery---  it will be here before you know it. This is the quiet before the storm.  good luck

Lol yes I am. I just want to know if i am dilated any. If I was at 1 I'd be like i have this much to go. Instead of me not knowing anything.

Every time they examine you they run the risk of scraping your cervix and causing bleeding or introducing infection.

If you're not having contractions at 36 weeks there's no reason to check you.

Looking forward to having your cervix checked made me smile.  I can't imagine looking forward to that.  ;D
