Can I still have babies?

I was a heroin addict for 4 years was homeless and lost alot of weight and didn't have my period for two years, am I sterile? I've never got an exam, ever. i've been to afraid because of past reasons.. and still am afraid.

I hope u realize how much raising a baby will cost and aren't thinking about a baby anytime soon. There's nothing in your reported history that would make u sterile unless u had an untreated STD or infection. Glad to hear u are clean and that a new way is being studied.

If u can't afford a dr. you could try a planned parenthood clinic. They are pretty affordable and charge based on what can afford. You really need to get checked out to make sure you are ok.

I'm 22, I've gained the weight, and yeah my periods are back. I used a blood pressure med to get off the heroin, it's a new study and it worked. thank you guys for replying :]

I was in the same situation but only actively using for 2 1/2 years. I was homeless as well and not having periods. I didn't think I could get pregnant either also because of a previous miscarriage. I wasn't using protection and after a year of being clean I got pregnant. It was the biggest surprise and best thing that has happened to me. Good luck!

The only way you could be sterile would be if you have a massive STI that has not been treated. They are rare but can cause some damaige if left untreated. The best way would be to get a DR to check you out with a few blood tests and an exam. If you are scared and need help getting that done , make an appt with the dr before hand and explain to them your scared and they should help you out with a social worker to be present while its getting done for support.

Having a physical trauma (like weight loss and not having periods) in the past does not affect you once you get well from the trauma, i.e., regain the weight and your periods come back.   You would not be made permanently sterile.

Are you having periods now? are you on any meds to help coming off the Heroin as these drugs can effect fertility.. Has your weight increased now? these are all factors in your fertility
