Missed abortion... worried about planning again...

Hpt 3 days after missed period was +tive & US showed 1.8mm sac, had my second US at 6 wks 4 days and they found yolk sac and fetal pole with sac measuring 1.58cm & gestational age showed 5wk 4 days but no HB was found and the doc scared me of missed abortion, advised for blood works to be done HCG count showed 25950,48 hrs later was 35267 it didnt double but doc was optimistic & advised US after 10 days , had my US on 2nd july when i was 8 wks 1 day and still no HB seen & fetus didnt grow , sac age showed 6wks 4 days & was confirmed of missed abortion. was admitted in hosp & terminated pregnancy with vaginal tablets which was so painful & was told next day after scan there is left over tissues & will expel in a day or two & to come for a scan to confirm all clear in a week but was facing acute pain & was admitted on sat again & went thru D&C.i WAS TOTALLY SHATTERED AS LOST MY BABY AND TOP OF THAT HAD TO GO THRU ALL THE pain. The doc could have done D&C the first time instead of doing it thru tablets. also doc said she suspects Endrometrisis & has advised me to take contraceptive pills for 3 weeks & has advised me to plan after 3 months I dont know how safe it is to take OCP, can anyone advise if it helps to cure Endrometrises. Please advise what should I do next as scared & dont want to go thru this again.should i take contraceptive pills for 3 weeks...how can i assure healthy pregnancy next time..what could be the reason for having missed abortion.pls advise.

The odds for you to have a normal healthy pregnancy are certainly in your favor! The miscarriage rate is very high and your situation is certainly not uncommon. I have had 2 miscarriages within this year and it is truly heartbreaking BUT I have learned a few things along the way. It was so hard for my husband and I to understand how our little one's life (both times) here could be so short, but we found so much comfort in knowing that God's
love never changes and His purposes in all things are for our good.  Hold on to each other and don't
be afraid to say goodbye to your little one.  He/she was here for only a little while, but not without
purpose. Even though your heart will never heal 100% your body will. Please take time to heal physically and wait a few cycles -  when you feel like your body has healed - try again.

I had a miscarriage at what I thought was 10 weeks. A scan showed that the pregnancy had not progressed further than 6 weeks and 4 days. I had to have the vaginal tablets and luckily everything came out. However, after this I was in a lot of pain and it took my doctor 6 months before he decided to refer me to a gynaecologist. I had a laproscopy done which confirmed I have endometreosis. I was advised to take the pill none stop for 6 months as endometreosis is a problem when you are bleeding. If I did not have a period for 6 months he said the chances are this would help my endometreosis. I did what he advised for 3 months but then began to bleed. The bleeding lasted for approximately 5 weeks and I eventually lost a very big piece of tissue (it turned out to be the lining of my uterus). This happened because I had not had a period for so long.

Luckily, after that things seemed to settle down a little. I was also worried about any future pregnancies as endometreosis can cause problems with fertility if bad enough.

I am now 22 weeks pregnant with a little boy so hang in there and I'm sure things will be fine.

Good luck.

Emma

Thank you very much for your response!  I can definitely tell that you are a very strong woman.  I actually had to go to the e.r. today because I began bleeding very heavily this morning.  My first two days was just the light spotting like expected but woke up and realized that I was bleeding a large amount.  I waited to fill another pad (which didn't take long at all) before I called the on-call dr.  She told me to go the e.r. because this isn't normal.  So, I did; which was a waste of time because he just told me that if it kept on tomorrow to call my dr.  I am still bleeding very heavily tonight.  Did this ever happen to you after your d&c?  So, is your dr. going to try anything special for the next time you get pregnant?  I am just so fearful of this happening again.

I am glad to hear that I need to wait two menstrual cycles before trying again, as I thought it was three.  My husband and I were expecting our first, we were so excited and couldn't wait to tell our family.  My first u/s at about 6.5 wks showed that my gestational sac was very irregularly shaped, but a heartbeat was seen, so my dr. didn't seem concerned.  I researched on the internet and it prepared me for the worse, well I thought.  Luckily I work in a radiology dept. so our techs told me they would check me every week.  At 7.5 weeks (2 days ago) we found no heartbeat and no blood flow going to the baby.  I expected this and thought I had prepared myself for the worse, but was completely wrong.  These past two days have been the hardest days of my life...I can't sleep, can't control my crying, can't stop thinking about my baby, I am forcing myself to eat and drink, and am ignoring my loved ones' phone calls.  How did you girls cope with this?  A part of me wants to try a.s.a.p. like my husband, but another part of me is so scared that this same thing will happen again.  I know I am not strong enough to go through this again.  Do you know what the odds are that I will have another pregnancy with an irregularly shaped gestational sac?  I am in need of help and suggestions.  Thanks!

Thanks to all of you for your advise. I think I need to consult another doc to make sure everything is o.k as I dont want any complications in my next pregnancy. Doc has told me to wait for 3 months before I plan again but I've heard on this forum that many have planned immdtly after D&C and have had healthy pregnancy and have carried until term. I'm confused should I wait for 3 months or should I plan after one cycle. I'm still bleeding but not much so dont know when the bleeding will stop and will have my regular cycle? I'm so lost and confused...Have started to take OCP as suggested by doc will take for 3 weeks and then stop... I want to plan soon and dont want to wait until december but dont know what to do ...very confused...

If the main issue is waiting to conceive after a D&C, I was told to wait until after you have two periods.  The first period isn't usually normal (mine just came after 23 days post D&C), so they want one more (normal) period to make sure the pregnancy will have a good lining.  But I do think you should consult another doctor for advice on the other issues.  Hope all goes well for you!

I'm so sorry for your loss.  About a month ago, I had a missed miscarriage also at 9 and 1/2 weeks, and my doctor said to get the D&C asap.  I think if you have questions about your doctor's advice, you should consider consulting a second doctor in person.  I was told these early miscarriages are almost certainly due to some abnormality in the fetus--it is nothing you did, and it doesn't affect your having a successful pregnancy in the future.

I can't really help with the miscarriage other than to say that I am soooo sorry that you went through that.   The endometriosis I can help with.  Yes OCP's can help ease the symptoms of the disease but it is not a cure.   It does sometimes take a few tries to find ones that are the most beneficial to your specific body.    I do know from my own doctor that getting pregnant and carrying to full term can help the disease as well, just let your doc know how worried you are and tell them that you really want to be monitored closely for complications.  Hope that helps, and Good LUCK!
