I watched it last night. It's more about breaking the sterotypes around the lifestyle. That said there is mo way. Marriage is hard enough with only two people.
I am pretty sure it is illegal and I am really wondering the same thing. It seems like even if it is something that is illegal but in Utah they kind of "look the other way", by them having their own show and just being so open about it, it seems like kind of a slap in the face to the law- kind of like daring someone to come and arrest them.
Momo1409- I never thought of that maybe that is how they get away with it? I think the way it works is that the first wife and the man ARE legally married, and all the wives after the first wife are not legally married to him. They are just "sealed" whatever that means. I am going to keep watching and I really hope they address the whole legal issue becuase I'm curious.
I have it recorded but havent yet watched it..... I didnt read all the replies but I really dont know what the story line is so I will watch it today and let y'all know how I feel about it!
I watched it out of curiosity, I dont believe in polygamy as I grew up in a christinan home. I was surprised to say the least. I personally cant image living the way they do but they all seem very happy. Even their children seem very happy. Cody ( the husband) doesnt really act like king either he seems like a nice guy, he treats all the wife's well and makes sure to take each 1 on a date each week. He rotates bedrooms as well. WEIRD I know but it seems to work for them. He did not grow up that way, his dad converted when he was 19 I think and he decided to convert as well. 2 of the wifes grew up in polygamy familes so to them its normal, they even said they cant imagine living with just a husband and no sister wifes. 1 wife didnt grow up that way but likes it. Its interesting that all the wives have specific roles, 1 works to help pay for the families needs and she loves working she said she's just not the type to stay home, but she loves that her kids are home with their "other mom" 1 wife is going back to school something she always wanted to do and the last cleans and home schools the kids.
It did seem like there was going to be conflict in furture shows about the 4th wife. Cody said me having 3 wives is ok with them but a girlfriend no! I dunno personally I dont agree with it. However after watching it they truly all seem happy. 1 interesting tidbit....the 1st wives sister was also in a polygamist family and she died of cancer...very sad but the wive said she never had to worry about who would take care of her kids b/c they already had 2 other moms. That is 1 positive thing about it...however wrong I think the rest of it is.
just a question, isnt it illegal? in the US and Canada? Where do they live that they can get away with it? or is he only legaly married to the 1st wive?
To me its not about religion or jealousy. I cannot respect a man who has such an ego to make all of these women do what HE wants to support his own egotistical whims, to serve him sexually, to reproduce however he pleases to share their relationship, to make a household for him. Its just disgusting to me. And these women are idiots following such an egotistical, selfish, chauvenistic, sexist pig. That's all I think it is. It just makes me mad.
I think they live in a town or something where its not. Or just flat out aren't legally married. You know do the whole shabang but never signed the papers? I'm not sure I bet they'll talk more bout it.
And its true his newst wife was in a sign marriage before and she didn't like it! And he said that the first wife me others first and it took him a while to decided hed marry them. That may also be why she is not as ok with this fourth wife..... I agree hmm..
