Pregnancy Phases/Stages

Hi Doctor,

I know this is the right place to ask this question, please i really need a doc's assistance. Please assist by answering my doubting thoughts.........

I went with my than engaged girl friend (now my wife) on the dates: 9,10 of August 08. Her menstruation period usually falls on the 28 - 31 and/or 1st or 2nd dates of the next month, and she gave birth in June 12 09. June is the 10th month of her pregnancy period. we both agreed and claim that it's my child but am still confused. is it possible for a child to be born in the 10th month? how do i count the pregnancy stages/months? do i include the first two months or exclude to get 9 months? Besides has she gone with someone else after me?

Pls explain the fertility period.
i don't want to go for DNA Tests coz i really want to understand the menstruation and pregnancy stages/phases.

i am extremely depressed and this could lead to a divorce.

Also this is the answer i got form someone else....

"Hello amox, The best thing for you to do is remember the dates when you had unprotected sexual intercourse. Then remember the dates when she first missed her periods. From the last menstrual period, from the 1st day add 280 days and it should fall with a gap of 2-3 weeks on either side of June 12, 09. Confirmation is by paternity matching DNA tests. Take care!"

It seems OK with this but, if I had sexual intercourse with her on the stated date (August 9 & 10, 2008) and misses her menstruation period from 29 - 31 (August) and 1 -2 (September), i understand sperm can survive in the womb for about 5 days. But she gave birth in the 10th month (June 12, 2009), is this possible? The baby has my features...! But my families are questioning this...

Please assist i am depressed.. could affect the innocent child..

I had a 10 month pregnancy with my daughter. It was called a lunar pregnancy. My due date was July 4th and she was born June 26th.

I still think it all works out...You've got to remember that dating during pregnancy is always guesswork, and it can be off by several weeks on either side (she may have ovulated earlier in her cycle and that can throw the dates off by a week) or she may have gone all the way to 42wks which is technically in the 10th month...so unless you have a serious reason to doubt her fidelity and wonder if the child is yours, I wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy the bundle of joy that you have!

congrats daddy and just try to relax, I think the dates add up. Like I said the only way to know for sure is a DNA test, but it's never an exact science and unless you have reason to suspect the baby is not yours, I wouldn't go by dates when they're so close to normal.
