Dilating? Effaced? 29 weeks?

Me and my partner were fooling around lastnight, and he noticed my cervix was very forward an said it felt open! So we stopped what we where doing! This was then bothering me, so today i checked my cervix myself, with sterile gloves and felt my cervix is soooo soft and very open and so forward, I actually felt past it because I didn't realise it was my cervix! It was so flat, soft and very wide! Just noticed a small flap an thought what is that, then realised it was my cervix!!!!
I Didn't want to check how open it was though (infection risks and risk of disturbing up there) but I reckon about 2 maybe 3 fingers? Im a fully qualified nurse, so know what and where my cervix is! However i am not trained in midwifery or gynea, so not sure how to messure in CM! I'm 29 weeks! I'm so worried.. I phoned my midwife, who thinks I'm a worrier anyway, an told her my partner noticed its extremely soft an forward, but she just said no it'll be fine, try not to worry, so not sure if she is just brushing past it an thinks im not sure what I'm talking about! Surely this shouldn't be like this, I want to get my cervix checked out, but don't know how to go about it or explain my reasons as to why I want it checking! How do I explain I checked it myself?

Anyways what does it mean if my cervix is open and 2-3 fingers plus soooo soft and forward? Does it mean pre-term labour? Iv had some minor twinges and cramping but not constant!

Please don't reply with patronising advice!

i also think you should go and checked, just to make sure and ease your mind. with my first son i went into preterm labor at 30-31wks. The people at labor and delivery will not look at you funny, i went in there and just said my stomachs hurting and something doesnt feel right. Your intuition will tell you and if your that worried, follow your thoughts. :) Good luck with everything and hope all goes well and please keep us posted :)

I'm now having sharp shooting pains in my vagina/cervix, for the last half hour.. Not excruciating but still uncomfortable.. Again no contractions though!

Thanks for the non patronising advice guys :-).. I like your idea petite.. I have been having twinges, but not contractions! I was gutted my midwife didn't seem bothered because surely this shouldn't be like this! An even if it can be 'normal' surely they should at least check me out! I think she thinks I'm just a worrier so just overlooks what I say! I dont want to check my cervix again, with all the risks involved, and it freaked me out when I checked this morning, so I'm not sure if there's any change in it now it's been a few hours! It's hard sometimes to be taken seriously because I'm a first time mum, so I'm just expecting the same knock back it I go to maternity unit at the hospital!

CM are generally measured roughly by finger.. 1 cm dilated is if u oculd fit 1 finger in the cervix.. 2-3 would mean 2-3cm roughly.... i would go to labor and deliver and just tell them you have been having some tightenings  with pain and you are getting concerned about it... they will check your check..]

when i was 31 weeks, i had two realy painful contractions and thats all i said.. i even said they stopped.. they still checked me and found my cervix was really short/thin for htat stage... i was then monitored for risk of preterm labor..

Im not necessary saying lie to them but i mean you midwife should have checked you...  but labor and delivery should take care of u

It could be the start of pre-term labour, your cervix does soften and swell alot when your pregnant due to all the hormones, but I would go and get checked just to be on the safe side, if everything is normal then thats great, but if it isnt you will be able to be closley monitored etc, good luck
