Pregnant after Miscarriages, questioning Doctor's care

I have had two miscarriages recently (also have one living child) and found out they were caused by borderline insulin resistance. My regular OB has sent me to a specialist that put me on Metformin and Prometrium.

I just found out I'm pregnant again, the specialist has only checked my HCG levels and plans on doing two ultrasounds in the next 3-5 weeks. Do you think that he should be at least checking my insulin levels? Also, I was told by his nurse that I won't be having a regular pregnancy appointment (exam, etc) until I go back to my regular OB in August. I'll be somewhere around 9-11 weeks by then. None of this seems right to me and I'd hate to have another miscarriage. What should I do?

Refering to what is normal of when to see your doctor after finding out you are pregnant I can offer a few answers.  When I found out I was pregnant the first time I had to wait until I was 8 weeks.  Second pregnancy I had to wait until 12 weeks.  Then on my third pregnancy I was at a new doctor who had me come in at 6 weeks and had my first u/s at 9 weeks (baby died though and had d & c).  I think different doctors just have different opinions.  I know with my first doc that they had them so far out to rule out most of the miscarriages.  I am glad that I had a different doctor for my problem.  Hope that helps a tiny bit.

PS: to add to my other thread.  When I called to office to make an appointment after I found out I was pregnant I have to wait 4 weeks, before they would see me.  Is this normal?

I had a similar problem with my doctors and it drove me crazy - I have PCOS and especially in the first weeks the insulin levels and hormone levels can go crazy and make the pregancy at a higher risk for miscarriage, but I could not get my regular doc or OBGYN to see me until I was 6 weeks (for the reg Doc) and not until the end of the first trimester for the OBGYN - I was SO mad.  I was seeing the OBGYN once a month to GET pregnant, then when I was, no one wanted to see me.  In the end, everything (so far) is fine and I am 17 weeks now, so I am praying for the same outcome for you.

Good luck.

OK, this looks like a good thread to use.  This is my first time doing this.  I Miscarried at 5 weeks on June 26th.  I went to see my obgyn yesteday and all she did was talk to me.  No exam, no blood work NOTHING.  Is this normal?  I am 36 and this is the first time I have ever miscarried.

Hello, I really did not want to post here but there was no other opening. I had a misscarrige 5 months ago. i have been getting my blod work done every 2-3 weeks since. my hcg levels are not going down. 14, 12, 13, 12, 11, . The doctors finally said that i needed to have an injection of methotrexate to kill the cells that were in there. Also to mention, I had an internal ultrasound before the methotrexate to see if there were any visible tissues to do a d&c. there was nothing. my levels before the injection were 11, then after the injection the levels were only 10. the doctors are very puzzled on why the methotreate did not make the levels drop to 0. Mind you that it has been 5 months since the non complicated misscarriage. The misscarriage was caused by a hematoma on the placenta, causing it to tear away from the uterus wall, I was approx. two months along. The doctors here in Olean, NY are going to refer to the doctors in Buffalo, NY. any suggestions or answeres?
