Question- What is your opinion of Marajuana or Weed during pregnancy?

Ok, no one freak out or start yelling at me. I just want opinions... What do you think about weed during pregnancy to treat Nausea?

The reason I ask is I've been on SEVERAL midwife's sites that reccommend weed or marajuana as a way to help perk up the appetite. Not enough to get completely baked, but enough to relax you and help your appetite.  and YEA, I know it's illegal... but I'm one of those who think it should be legalized so that at least ppl won't be getting it laced or whatnot. (and it'll lose some of it's appeal to younger generations)

Also, my friend was talking to me today, and she had the same issues I've had with my pregnancy: Bad M/S during the first 1/2 of pregnancy, and lingering m/s or no appetite during the rest of her pregnancy. She had a problem eating enough and putting on weight.

Her NURSE at her doctors office suggested it to her, and she said it helped alot. And it turns out her mother also did it a little for the same reasons when pregnant with her. (like 2X a week or so only in the AM to boost hunger)

I have NOT smoked it during pregnancy, but have seriously considered it. Yes, I know the risks to MY lungs, but to my knowledge there have been NO studies showing harmful effects to the baby. and I've looked.

i'm really sorry and this is only my opinon but i cant even believe a pregnant person needs to ask that question. this is your child how could you even justify thinking about it. i mean i smoked pot before i got pregnant but i could never ever think about doing it now. my baby means more then anything to me and putting harmful toxins into my body and into my baby, it's not fair on your child as they cant say no for themself!

I haven't researched the issue or anything but I seen marijuana and pregnancy in the same sentence....no matter how much you do or don't eat in the first 12 weeks your baby will take all the nutrients it needs from you no matter how sick you feel. The baby should be fine.  I see some people writing..maybe if you take a puff..sounds like going to the extreme just for some morning sickness. It's an illegal drug (in Australia)..you could use it to mask the problem but would be creating another far worse problem for your baby. My doctor asked me to quit drinking so much coffee because of increased risk of miscarriage and birth defects...if thats just what a few cups of good old tea or coffee can do imagine marijuana??! It's your choice in the end, if you did get to the point where you couldn't eat or drink (dehydrated) they would hospitalize you.

Yeah I just STILL dont see why anyone would have to do "research" on something that could be bad.  It just seems that anything that potentially could be bad should just be off limits and thought of as "it will be fun to do or try when I am not pregnant".  As for being sick....well hell I think most pregnant women are.  And sorry to say Martikadragoon, I read your posts occasionally and I havent read post after post about you complaining of sickness.  I have only read "well I eat sushi, drink and go in hot tubs...and my baby is healthy"....so I may have a somewhat a different viewpoint if I knew you were in some sort of agonizing pain, but doesnt seem like it.  I am in no way trying to judge you at all and I hope this post doesnt come across that way.  As of now your baby has been diagnosed with downs, that is a hard hand to be dealt for yourself and TJ.  You will have many rough roads ahead of you, so it just seems to me that you should really try to give him the best start and be completely healthy yourself.  I know there can be different severities of the syndrome, but I know for sure it doesnt help if you are puffing on a joint while his delicate brain is developing.
So in the end I dont know why this should ever be a question/post on here.  Diva_Lorri has it correct there are many women who would die to be in your shoes now and it seems as if you are taking it all forgranted.

i dont want to judge anybody and each to there own my opinion stands against it.
i think its plain selfish to do anything including drugs that can potentially harm your baby and an insult to those ttc and going through the trauma involved.

Thanks very much, I'll use those links when I'm doing my research...  honestly, I enjoy being pregnant, honestly... But I dont' enjoy the downside, and not everyone does. You know?

To each they're own. Give me a few hrs. and I'll post the links to the websites ive found supporting the OCCASIONAL use of marajuana during pregnancy.... And I know, there are a million opinions on each side of the story.

I must make mention again, that there is a HUGE difference in doing it 1-2X a week and EVERYDAY.... of course if you do something everyday it's bad for you. Just lke if you eat a cheeseburger everyday it's bad for you.

I do appreciate those links and will definitely check into them. (I"m about to eat what I can of dinner.. lol)
On the upside... I've been able to push a bit more in my stomach each day the last couple days. I'm up to 2 FULL meals and a few snacks thruout the day. (like granola bars, small serving of chips and dip... fruit.. )

personally I don't agree with it....Women have been going through pregnancy for as long as we can remember and accompanied are the horrible morning sicknesses...It affects everyone differently.. some worse than others(I know I have been there... I lost ALOT of weight during my pregnancy) I think it's illegal for a reason.. and my little cousin's mom smoked weed EVERYDAY during her pregnancy for her and she is slow..she doesn't understand much.. kind of seeming as though she is baked...She was in the hospital for severe jaundice and pneumonia at 4 months...At birth she was hospitalized for 3 weeks due to her small birth weight...Her mom didnt do drugs for her youngest and she is go go go and the first is very mellow...She is constantly going to dr's and ever since she was born they concluded the mom had been using marijuana because she was having severe withdrawals and that was only from marijuana..I believe that IT DOES affect the unborn fetus...Everything you eat, drink SMOKE inhale the baby gets...

Now some say there are no researches done or no proof but all i typed out were effects of marijuana during pregnancy and a whole bunch of links came up as to why you should NOT smoke it during your pregnancy...

"No. Smoking marijuana during pregnancy may affect your baby's growth and the development of his nervous system. Studies have shown that children who were exposed to marijuana during pregnancy sometimes have problems focusing their attention and solving problems.

Children of heavy pot users may also have problems with short-term memory, concentration, and judgment. (There's no evidence so far, however, that marijuana use during pregnancy causes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

One study even found that young children whose mothers smoked marijuana during pregnancy had a higher risk of leukemia than those whose mothers did not.

What's more, there's no way to know if the pot you're smoking has been laced with other drugs (such as PCP) or contaminated with pesticides, which would put your baby at even higher risk. And using marijuana increases the chance that your baby will have birth defects if you're also drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco.

If you smoked pot before you realized you were pregnant, don't panic. The chance that your baby has been affected is very small. Still, it's important to be honest with your practitioner about your previous use of pot and other recreational drugs. She may want to run some extra tests to be sure your baby is developing normally."

here are more sites incase you dont believe me

http://www.thinkpregnancy.org/english/marijuana.htm

http://www.ucsfhealth.org/childrens/medical_services/preg/care/pregSubstance.html

anyways I could go on...I don't understand WHY anyone would want to risk a miscarriage, fetal death, still birth or ANYTHING harmful to their baby.. I am sorry but your baby deserves the best and if thinking about smoking or actually smoking marijuana is thinking of your baby i think you need a reality check.. many women wait their whole lives for a baby and never get it...I don't know it REALLY makes me angry tthat even ONE joint, one puff whatever IT STILL CROSSES THE PLACENTAL BARRIER!!!! To me that's selfish...Being sick is the JOY of being pregnant.. ENJOY IT!!! It's the miracle of life.. and if you can't deal with being sick then maybe you cannot deal with having a child.. this should have been thought out carefully...I am sorry for being rude but that's my views!!!
