RH negative

Five months ago i had a miscarriage at only five weeks because of my blood type RH neg. When i was at the hospital they gave me a shot and told me that it would prevent having a miscarriage again. Well now my husband and I think we are ready to try again. Do I have to get this shot again since its been so long since the last one? And am I supposed to wait until I know that im pregnant to get that shot? Or can I get it before we conceive? Bc last time I had just found out I was pregnant the day before I had the miscarriage. I just want to prevent that from happening again.
Thank you for reading

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Were you told that it was due to your blood group? I'm o- too and my partner is o+ so I have had to have the shots. You shouldnt need another before conception as the one you had will have prevented your blood making antibodies against the + factor. You will need them during a pregnancy though, especially if you have a bleed. My concern for you though is if you have been told that the miscarriage was due to your blood then you may already unknowingly have been pregnant and built a resistance against the +factor...I think you should speak to your doctor to check, save you going through the same thing again, I'm sure there is something that can be done to help. If you have no antibodies then you should be fine with getting the shots throughout your pregnancy (I'm on baby no3, there's nothing to worry about as long as you have the shots). I also know of someone who did get through a pregnancy with the antibodies, her baby had to have blood transfusions in the womb and he was born early but was perfectly healthy.
Speak to your doctor about the reasons for the miscarriage, but I'm sure you will be absolutely fine to try again. Best of luck to you x

This all is very new to me and that day was a very stressful and emotional day for me and they were throwing information at me like crazy. Lol. So its hard to remember exactly what the doc told me.. But I am A- and my partner is A+. My sister also has the same blood as I and she told me she had to get the shot when she first conceived her first child. That type of blood runs in my family though. And im not quite sure what you mean when you said I might have unknowingly been pregnant..like I could have been pregnant before the miscarriage and didn't know it??

Ive been reading up on the rh factor and it says that having a miscarriage is not common with the first child.. so im thinking it was something more than just the blood group.
i do remember I was going thru a rough time bc my husband had just left for bootcamp and I wasn't handling that very well and I do smoke but when we decided we wanted to conceive I quit cold turkey I know some of those might have been contributing factors to having a miscarriage.
But I will get with my doc and talk to him about everything I just thought id get some information off of here. Thank you for your reply. This site is so helpful im glad I found it.

I also am rh negative but do not have my negative D injection Untill another 3 weeks. It lasts a long time so no need to worry. I don't understand why they told you it was that that caused you mc as I'm currently 26 weeks. Best of luck in the future

I'm also rh negative and lost my first pregnancy as well, but I don't think that had anything to do with the loss. It was that something wasn't right with baby genetically. I'm now 29 weeks in a healthy pregnancy and they didn't give me a shot before trying again. I know they give you one in late pregnancy and then another after you deliver.

the doc at the hospital said it could have been a number of reasons why i mc. my stress level at the time was pretty high, that was probably most of the reason. and i am border line anemic but I take daily vitamins and when i was pregnant i was also taking prenatals every day. who knows. i just want a healthy baby this time. thank you all for your replies. I'll be getting with my doc really soon to talk about all of this, as soon as my insurance kicks in.
