Should I test again? (two neg already)

Hello! I have a couple of questions. My lmp was on Nov 1, and I had u/p sex on Nov 16- which should be around my time of ovulation. My cycles seem to be pretty normal, although I didn't really track them becuase we weren't ttc. But the last few months they always come on or around the same day. So, on Nov 23 (one week after sex) I started to get a very little bit of spotting- brown, and really only when I wiped- never had to use a liner... And there was no PMS symptoms at all- which I have every single month and very very bad- especially cramps and heavy bleeding for three or for days and there were none at all- it lasted for three days the same way until Nov 26 when it became heavier- but only for about an hour (if that) and I thought my period was starting so I put in a tampon and went on with my day. A couple of hours later I check it and there was barely anything in the tampon. It totally stopped. I took a test the next day (thinking maybe it was implantation bleeding- my first question was it?) and it was neg. SO now it is Dec 3- right around when my normal period would have started (maybe a day or two late) and there is nothing. I took a first response this am and it was neg. Can I be pregnant? Should I wait and take it again- perhaps not enough hcg? I have a little bit of cramping and kind of sore breasts and some nausia in the afternoons the last few days- but would I be experiencing these symptoms if I was preg but with hcg levels not high enough to detect? Or did I just have a totally wonky period (that was early, no pms and super light?) All of this questioning is driving me crazy! ;) I appreciate your help (also- I do not have insurance right now and cannot go to the dr for the blood test)

Hello,

Home pregnancy tests differ in their sensitivity (i.e., the ability to detect the hormone of pregnancy when it is present).  The most sensitive of these are First Response Early Result and Clearblue Easy Earliest Results.  The earliest either of these might detect a pregnancy would be at the time of the missed menses (generally ~two weeks after conception).  When a HPT administered at the time of the missed menses returns negative it is recommended to repeat the test in a one week.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

Thank you for your answer! I will retest- I did use the First Response yesterday and it was negative- but I still have not gotten my period. I had slight cramping last night and thought it might be here- but still nothing (and as I said- my periods are usually very very painful right before it starts- very bad cramps, bloating, breasts sooooo sore and very irritable- but I don't feel any of that!) So I will retest- but the waiting is killing me! I just want to get on with life and deal with it- no matter what the outcome is! :)
