I recently had the same problem.  My husband and are ttc for the 1st time as well.  I was over two weeks late for my period and kept getting negative HPT's and I was hoping that I was preggo, but af came after 50 days of waiting.  While I was waiting to I researched this scenario too, and have found that some women do not test positve until they are 2-4 weeks has passed since their missed period.  I believed I was preggnant, but now I think my cycle was just adjusting to not being on birth control.  I was on birth control for 2 1/2 years and had stopped two months prior to this happening.  My body just hadn't adjusted yet.  Have you been on birth control?  The only thing I can tell you is that you can either go to the doctor and be tested (blood test, not urine) or you can wait it out like I did.  It's hard, I know but you'll find out something eventually, one way or the other.  Good luck and I hope you get a BFP!

Some women don't get the +HPT until later.  You may want to wait a week and then try again if no AF.
You sound like you may be experiencing implantation bleeding with the light discharge.  This is what I experience when I am pregnant.
Were you on any form of BC before you started TTC?  This may play into your cycle being thrown off if you were.
My best advice would be to either wait and see, or get a blood test to find out for sure.
Good Luck!
