I too have been neglecting my pills,  not only can I not keep it down, but taking pills at my work is so forgetful, there's times where I've brought them to work and they still sat there in my purse untouched...Even though my tests for the baby came back normal I still try to remind myself or force myself to take them when I can...but it's hard, I am so sensisitve with swallowing pills, any kind of pills...

I don't know. It sounds like a mental thing. I HATE taking pills. Even aspirin I have a hard time taking. When my doctor gave me samples of all the different vitmains, I went right for the smallest ones. My throat does the same thing and I really think it's mental. What I do when I take them is put it in the front of my mouth and then take a big sip of juice. (Like the entire mouth full) then swallow with one big gulp. Most times I don't even feel it.

I just told my husband the other night that I don't understand why my gag reflex is so sensitive that I can't take that little pill. I'm sure I swallow morsels of food that are larger than that. LOL!  Also, don't think about what you're doing. Just do it real fast before your mind has time to tell your throat to tighten.

I know how hard it is...I'm in the exact same boat, but we have to try to get these pills down for the sake of our baby's well being. I've been really good for the past week and I actually took vitamins and folic acid prior to my getting pregnant, but like you have to struggle to get these down daily. Thank God it's only 1 pill a day. LOL!

Good Luck, if you find a miracle cure for us please post it:))

I didn't take them with my first child either, and I ended up with preeclampsia, I dunno if that's due to not taking them or not, but they made me horribly sick, I didn't finish one bottle of them, I had 3 left when I had my son.  This time, I'm lacking again, I can't swallow them, I start out really good, and then like my throat just closes up and I can't do it. I dunno, flinstone vitimans make me sick too...I've tried different vitimans and they still do the same thing to me.  These prenatals though, have not made me sick, I just can't swallow them a fear of something, what it is i'm not sure I dunno why my throat closes up but it does!  Any Advice?

Yeah all I want is my baby to be healthy and I feel so stupid for not taking them but they make me so sick. Also they give me like a heart burn thing. I have lost two childs and I would hate myslef if something happened to my baby. I just hope to that he will be ok. Starting today no matter what I will take even if it means being in the bathroom all day.

I would imagine you're like the rest of us and want to do the best thing possible for our unborn child, but I realize that taking those vitamins is not always an option. I had morning sickness from 4 weeks to 7 1/2 months with my first son and I'm at 11 weeks with the next one and I'm having a hard time getting them and keeping them down. With my first son I didn't take them and he was fine. I'm attempting with this one, but it has been a struggle. I'm going to ask my doctor next week when I see him if the flinstones could be an option. I urge you to do the same. Good luck!

My nephews girlfriend had problems with her prenatal vitamins making her sick, so her doc recommended flintstones vitamins, which she did fine with. If they make you sick enough that you can't take them I would talk to the doctor about the flitstones as an option.

I think that it can be over looked in the U/S and blood test so there is probably always that chance, but there's nothing you can do to prevent it at this point. According to the creditable website if the child has spinal bifidia it would occur by the 28th day of pregnancy. Check out the link...It tells you all you need to know about spinal bifida.

Last time I had an ultrasound they saw the baby and said he was healthy. THey said the spinal was good and everything this was Jan. 10th. Is there still a chance that when he is born there will be somthing wrong. I have barely taken one bottle of the vitamins and I am 19 weeks. My first appointment was in November ever since they gave me the vitamins. I still have to finish the bottle i have ten left. The bottle has 30. I talked to my doctor how this vitamins make me sick

Spina bifida will occur within the first 28 days from the begining of pregnancy. I don't think this will occur later in pregnancy if you don't take your prenatals. I would be too worried if you forget one now and then, but I would definately take it as soon as you remember.

A good prenatal will help with A lot of things with you and your baby..   A common defect in babies is called neurotube defect or spina bifida..  it occurs in 1:1000 babies..  this is cause from a lack of folic acid in the diet..  (its almost impossible to get the correct amounts by diet alon btw)  I would recommend a prenatal..  your doc can prescribe one for ya..

From what I've read, your body really needs the extra nutrients the vitamins provide, because most of us don't eat a healthy enough diet to get them all.  If you can't take them because they make you sick, I have read that some ladies have taken the flinstone chewables until they were able to go back to the regular ones.  If you just miss one here or there, I don't think that's a big deal.
