any tips on how to get baby engaged

I'm 39weeks pregnant today and baby still isn't engaged. My midwife has given me a date to get induced and its christmas day. i really don't want a baby born on that day. Is there any thing i can do to get baby engaged or bring on labour?

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would advise you to tell your midwife to re-schedule your induction--there is no need to have a baby on that day, and I totally support you--my triplets were born on 12-24 and it is awful!  We can never have a party on their special day!  Christmas itself would be even worse!
There are one million ideas and wive's tales about how to bring on labor--I'm not sure that I have seen any that really work.
Lots of my patients have tried walking, and that might help.
Others have tried things like castor oil.
Countless prayers have been said, and may work best of all!
Ask your midwife to "strip or swipe" your membranes because there IS some data that that actually works.
