Ectopic Pregnancy

I had an ectopic pregnancy in July 2007. They removed it with laproscopic surgery. I have had a full term pregnancy prior to the ectopic in January 2005. My fiance and I are trying to concieve again. What are my chances of concieving a healthy child a carry it to full term?

Hello,

Your risk of a recurrent ectopic is ~15% (this is slightly higher if you had a salpingostomy--opening of the affected tube, vs. salpingectomy--removal of the affected tube).

The ability to conceive is quite high, up to 89%.  Carrying that pregnancy to full term would not be related to your ectopic history.

Best regards and happy New Year,

Dr. Downing
