early period or implantation bleeding?

I have been off the pill for over 6 months and trying for a baby.  This month i started having brown colored spotting a full week before my period was due (which is strange since my period has been extremely consistent every month).  This brown spotting turned to a little bit of blood then back to brown spotting and back and forth for four days now.  Not enough to wear a tampon, it usually just comes out when I go to the bathroom.  I've never experienced anything like this and am wondering if it's a weird early period or a pregnancy that maybe didn't "take".  There have also been small blood clots along with the spotting.

The first thing to do is a pregnancy test!  If that is negative, then it is probably as you put it "a weird early period".  Maybe you didn't ovulate this month for some strange reason. It is good news that your periods are so consistent!  That certainly suggests that you are ovulating which is obviously necessary for conception.  I wouldn't worry about ONE weird period.  Only if they start happening every month.

Sounds like implantaion bleeding to me not that I disagree with the doctor but you never know, it is a possibilty
