just wondering

Hi there my husband and I are trying to conceive. I have problem with my monthly cycle. There are sometime where I don't have a menstral cycle for 3 or 4 months at a time. What are my chances of conceiving? Is it normal to skip you cycle for months at a time like that? Is there anything that I can do to help in trying to conceive?

My cycle wasn't normal.  I got my period anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months.  I never freaked out about whether or not I ovulated.  I just relaxed and got pregnant within a couple of months of trying and had a beautiful baby girl.  I have been breastfeeding her for 10 months.  I got one period in the beginning of August and then one at the very end of October.  Started trying again and got pregnant on the first try.  I miscarried this past Friday but I know I can get pregnant again even with a crazy cycle.

Definetly discuss your concerns with your dr.  Also, try to use your instinct.  If you don't feel the dr. is right, get a second opinion.

But as far as getting pregnant with an irregular period-it is very possible!!!!  I'm confident I will get pregnant again and I wish the best of luck to you too!!!

Thank you for all the helpful stuff. I did go to my doctor and he sent me for blood work and all of it came back normal. The only other thing that he said it could be is that my hormone level wasnt normal. I was told to try checking my temp every month and so far it has been working as regards to knowing when my highest temp is every month. I wont keep from trying thats for sure. Now I did have my menstral cycle From October 28 till Nov 3 and according to my ovulation time it was somewhere from the Nov 8 to Nov 12 so I guess we will see later on if it had worked or not.

Hi!
I would definitely suggest seeing your doctor!  It is almost certain that you are not ovulating regularly, and while that doesn't mean that you won't conceive, it might take a long time.  I have had very good luck with Femara to induce ovulation and speed up the process.  Depending on the cause, (they should check your thyroid and pituitary gland too) Metformin can be a helpful medication.  This is another relatively inexpensive medication that helps people ovulate (especially if they have polycystic ovary syndrome)
So go in and get checked!

Good luck!

You should be doing an ovulation test monthly to see if you are.
The majority of them give you a 24hr to 48 notice before ovulation to try and conceive.  I had the same problem of no or irregular periods for many years till i finaly was told i had PCOS.  me and my husband had been trying for 5 years in total.  don't waste time not going to see a doctor if you dont ovulate ( also if you track your at rest temp, it should spike before ovulation).  You can also get male fertility tests from the pharmacy...save on time $ and face for husband....
Good Luck..
