Is it normal to have a smell during pregnancy?

This is one of those questions I hate to ask... very TMI.  But I noticed today that I have a vag. oder.  I had that kind of smell before with a yeast infection.  Should I be worried?  Should I go to the ER?  My Ob app. is on the 14th.  PLEASE HELP!

I have asked my midwife about this and she checked and everything is fine, its just part of pregnancy for some people

I had the same thing while pregnant.  It turned out that I had a yeast infection even though I did not have the burning and itching to go with it.

Oh and invest in panty liners and change them often. That should help. Don't use Summer's Eve or any other product "down there" while preggo.

During pregnancy you can have a "distinct" odor. Your CM will also change and you can have it in more abundance. When I'm pregnant my urine/vagina smells VERY different (sorry if TMI but I hope that helps you).

I agree that it's probably not a UTI. You would have burning and pain with UTI.

It's normal. I have had a lot of increased discharge since being pregnant and by the end of the day it definitely causes and odour - I have spoken to a lot of other women and they have noticed the same thing. The increased progesterone causes an increase in white-yellow discharge, and a lot of this has a smell!! I notice an odour by the end of the day, it's gross, but normal.

UTI, by the way, should not cause an odour - I get them ALL the time, and never have had any odour or discharge issues - as it is coming from the urinary tract, not the vagina. From my hundreds of UTI infections - they have never been accompanied with an odour like a yeast infection.

If you were to have a yeast infection, there would be a lot more symptoms - like itching and burning.

Many things..

Sex can cause UTI's. What are your symptoms besides a "smell?"

They told me to go to the er.  What can cause a UTI?  I drink tons of water.

hola, chickie, I echo laura, deep breaths. It is not a huge emergency as long as you are not cramping or bleeding. Yeast infections come with a cottage cheeseish discharge, itching and burning. Urinary tract infections come with frequent need to pee with not much coming out and a burning feeling when you do get some out. With pregnancy there is a whitish smooth discharge called Lochia it is normal. Pregnant women also 1 are more sensitive to smells, you may be smelling your natural Summer heat scent, and it smells nasty to you but noone else. (for example the smell of apple pie makes me want to yak. ) I usually like it . so a "normal very mild female scent of hormones could seem overwhelming to you right now. Pregnant women not only get a supersmell sense but we have a stronger body odor than normal and possibly different also. I have noticed when it's really hot and I get sweaty and the Secret fails.... It doesn't have that "onion" smell but instead something chemically and gross. Like a mens locker room... ugh. Call the nurse, you can alos get a Monistat brand test to check for UTI or yeast infection. Best of luck.

UTI = Urinary Tract Infection

Calm down... Deep breath..

Now, I would do the same thing Lance recommended. Just call your doctor's office and ask to speak to your doctor, or the nurse if your doctor is unavailable. It is probably just something small and totally treat-able! =)

Good luck

I would call your doctor and tell them whats going on just to make sure you dont have a yeast infection or a UTI because I know that UTI's can cause vaginal bleeding as well which is something that you do not want to have during pregnancy.
Call your doctors office and talk to a nurse to get some answers
