Yes, you can have an IUD.  I didn't have any problems with milk supply or anything and no periods!  I managed to nurse exclusively for 6 months then supplement with food until 18 months - no formula!  I have heard some women talk about milk supply issues, but I never had that problem.  There are so many other things that can cause milk supply issues that I doubt the IUD or the mini-pill would be the culprit.  Good luck.

I used the Mirena IUD and breastfed just fine for 18 months.  It was painful putting in, but not all women experience that.  I had it inserted at 6 weeks postpardom and then removed a year and half later to try for number two.  I had one cycle and then was pregnant.  While on Mirena I did not have any periods either.  After I have this little one, I am going to do it again.  It can only last 5 years and does have some hormones in it.

They are called POP's: Progesterone Only Pills or Mini Pills.  I was on them while breastfeeding my youngest.  I stayed on those until I stopped bf'ing and was switched to a more powerful bc pill.  POP's are completly safe from what I've been told and I had no ill effects from them.

Yes you can, but you want to stay away from the estrogen based birth control options, they can mess with your milk supply.

Hey that's a good question! I never thought about that. I would assume so though, since most Dr.s suggest birth control shortly after having a baby. Mine did, and he knows I'm breastfeeding. I'm not on it yet though but I'm curious what others have to say about this...
