3 months preg with twins--tests for DS!!

My wife is 3months and a week pregnant. She went to do the 1st blood test to determine for down syndrome. A week later the results came back and said that since she has twins, one of the baby is 1/500 and 1/600 for DS. And that one of the babies neck is thick. They want to do more tests on her and said not to worry at this time.

We are very nervous and we very scared. we dont know what to do. and we dont have to have children with DS. what does the thick neck mean..i think she will prob have another blood test done i dont know what the procedure is.

thanks

Yes, it is possible. That is just one thing that they look for. IT doesnt necessarily mean it is DS, if the test comes back fine then you should have nothing to worry about. Remember not to stress too much, mommy and babies shouldnt get too stressed too much. Try to be strong and positive for your wife. I am sure the tests will come back fine. :-) Good luck to you!!! If you have any more questions that I cannot answer you can always call your wifes dr's office too and they can explain it better. At least you are involved in the pregnancy with your wife. THat is awesome!!! Good luck.

They will do another test. They did one on me and are still doing a second one this Friday. They do the two just to verify things I think. I am not positive, but I think thats what the second one is for. The thickness of the neck can be a sign of downs, so that is why they brought that up. WHen they did my screening for it, we did the ultrasound and the blood test and during the ultrasound the sonographer measured the thickness of the baby's neck as one way to check. I would rest easy for now until all the testing is done. Stressing about it will just make you sick and make it hard to enjoy the pregnancy with your wife. Try to relax a bit and keep us posted. My thoughts and prayers are with you!!
