Was the swollen lymph node biopsied for lymphoma?  Has he been checked for sarcoidosis?  I am not a doctor but I have sarcoid and I know it causes swollen lymph nodes, loss of apetite and extreme fatigue.  I hope the best for your friend.  You must be out of your mind with worry.

I also have sarcoid.  When I first got sick no knew what it was.  My lymph nodes swollen all over my body.  I lost an unreal amt of weight and could barely stay awake.  I went to doc after doc and only one at NYU found the cause.  I hope your friend finds out soon the cause of his symptoms.  I believe he may have an immune suppressing disease.  Has anyone tested his thyroid?

I was going to suggest thyroid, too .... what are his TSH T3 and T4 levels .. feel free to stop by the thyroid community ....

Where was the lymph node ... ?

Has he tried doing a course of antibiotics to see if that helps relieve his pain?

A lot of tests have a lot of false negatives (especially Lyme Disease), so he very well might have one of the diseases he's been tested for.  www.lymedisease.org

While no one wants to be a guinea pig, at a certain point, if he keeps getting worse, then I would consider signing a release form and begging your doctor to try different solutions.

I'm assuming that he's already doing everything he can at this point to save his life--diet, exercise, etc etc.  (I just wrote another post on this.)
