Emphasema?? - Fungus Possible??

by Phee238, Sep 03, 2008 02:49PM
I was recently diagnosed with 'severe obstructive ventilatory defect". One year ago I spent far too much time in a Hot Tub (5 hours).  The tub was outside and about 97' (during the summer).  Upon getting out I had difficulty breathing and several days later, breathing was still EXTREMELY difficult - I felt like I was drowning.  I went to the Dr.'s and he gave me a prescription of antibiotics and Advair.  Three months later I was back at the Dr.'s complaining that there had hardly been any improvement - I was sent to a pulmonary specialist.
DETAILS:  Nuclear Lung Scan -  "washout consistent with Mild obstructive lung disorder, Perfusion images demonstrated some areas of mild dimished perfusion particulary for the left base.  There did not appear to be any significant segmental or subsegmental unmatched perfusion defects",
Pulmonary Function Test: "severe obstructive ventilatory defect, normal TLC with severe air trapping. Normal diffusion.  Flow volume loop shows obstruction"
ECG:   "well-preserved left ventricular systolic function.  Physiologic mitral, pulmonic and tricuspid regurgitation without evidence of significant pulmonary hypertenson."
Nuclear Stress Test:

The DR did not acknowledge the Hot Tub other than to say, "don't get me started on hot tubs!".  He told me that I have emphasema but has not detailed anything further - he forgot that he had already given me a Rx for Spireva and Proventil, he has misplaced the results.

Is it possible that there is something else going on here....if this is so "severe" shouldn't I be on oxygen and get a handicapped parking tag??  I don't feel THAT bad...I have definite sleep disturbances and I am very tired all the time.  I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia (5 year now)...have had a sleep study which showed mild sleep apnea and oxygenation levels that dropped to 74 during REM sleep and upon entering the sleep state,

I am confused...could this something else, or, have some other componets??  I would really like another opinion.

Thanks for your help,
Phee

mycobacterium avium will cause these symtoms and you can get it from hot tubs. Some times when tested you can come back negitiave but still have the disease. IF YOUR DR DOES NOT BELIVE IT TRY NATIONAL JEWISH THERE GREAT.{STAY OUT OF HOT TUBS}
