Fluid in the lungs

Have a friend with both lungs filled up with fluid.  Has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will start chemo as soon as the fluid is removed.  Does the fluid retention have anything to do with the lung cancer or is is something else.  Brain and bone scans have been normal.

This discussion is related to WHAT CAN BE THE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF WATER IN LUNGS?.

I have had water in my lower left lung cavity since my open heart surgery on march 27th.
They tried asperating the fluid but it did not work and I now have a tube in my lung which I need to drain daily.
At this point I am waiting for it to stop collecting fluid.
I do get relief by daily draining .
