I notice that I have to consciously breathe sometimes. I find that I am holding my breathe, or rather not breathing naturally, or sometimes very shallowly. It also happens when I'm drifting off to sleep. My breathing will become very shallow and slow and I have to consciously breathe in deeply a few times in order to comfortably go to sleep. I also wake up sometimes with heavy lungs, like I haven't been breathing properly. At times I even get panicked in my sleep and it feels like I'm not breathing at all, so have to wake myself up in order breathe deeply for a while. Do you think this is anxiety or could it be some kind of central sleep apnea/ respiratory disorder related to brain function?
